View Full Version : The Worst Music

We all like to talk about the music we love, but what about the music we hate? What song do you turn off the moment you hear it come on - or is there a particular singer or band that you just loathe?
I have quite a few so here they are:
Kiss - I just don't get it. I have known people (briefly) who have been all about Kiss and I can't figure out why. I have never liked a Kiss song. I don't understand the ridiculous, scary make-up. I just don't get it. Looks like a bunch of crap to me.
Richard Marx - need I say more? Does anyone even know who this is? He was from the 80's and he had a mullet and he made bad songs. for some reason, he had several music videos. I don't get that either. I don't think I ever knew anyone that would own up to liking Richard Marx
Phil Collins - I hate Phil Collins I hate Genesis. why would anyone like phil collins?
Hilary Duff - I hate this little chic. Her videos come on at the gym where I work out so I see her horsey little face and sometimes the videos cut to a crowd of cheering fans. I am wondering if they just stole footage from a good concert and inserted it into her video to give kids the idea that other people are diggin Hilary Duff and so should they. And if everyone else loves Hilary, they should love her too just so the exec's could sell songs and concert tickets.
Mariah Carey - she has an amazing vocal range, but why do I have to hear her melodic screeches on my car ride home? She can go higher than most singers, but that doesn't make it good. It's awful.
Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry. I currenlty hear this song at least once a day. This song could be so much better if they just wouldn't play it all the time.
Anyone else want to go off on a popular singer or band that they just can't stand? Feel free - this is your ranting post.

I like Phil Collins. I think because he doesn't look like a "pop singer".
I saw Mariah Carey and Celine Dion on VH1 with Aretha Franklin and Carol King. She was so bad and so was Celine Dion. They tried to out sing Aretha of all things and she made them both look like crap. I loved it.

Aretha Franklin. I can't stand that "soulful" voice; it sounds AWFUL! like she's got something stuck in her throat. Also all rap. Jarring.

my most hated celebrity next to Victoria Spice-Posh Whatshername.
i think her voice is terribly nasal and I hate the way she is presented as sexy in women's mags... my best friend and me often leave through these at Starbucks for fun (not because we are interested in celebrities, just to see what the average woman reads). so ok, nobody forces me to look at those mags... but really, that woman is so incredibly ugly! she's got such a big fat bum.. it's even fatter than mine. hurray, I could be a sex symbol!!! and her head looks like a cross-over between a Bohemian/Bavarian dumpling and a bog-body's head: puffy cheeks but several sizes too small for her body  hehehhe, sorry to be so mean. but I know lots of real life women who look better (without any makeup, designer clothes, dyed hair etc), so I sometimes really wonder why so many ugly b*tches are presented to us as "sexy".

Heavy Metal - any kind of it. Why would I want to listen someone screaming? Because that's what they do, no one can tell me that they're singing. E.g. Iron Maiden.
@Sleepy: I wonder, do you hate Mariah Carey's music or the singer as a person?
Personally, I don't care whoever people are supposed to find sexy or pretty right now. But I'd rather the trend was going towards women who don't look like a walking skeleton. Really.

good point :) both, I think. but i haven't listened to any of her songs in ages.
as for her old songs, I didn't find them extraordinary in any way.. just the ususal pop stuff with a pinch of "Latin"

me too. but the problem i have with Carey isn't that she's not a skeleton but that her proportions just don't match

German girl rappers Tic Tac Toe. even if you don't understand German, you should be able to pick out the tacky beat. .. well, it doesn't sound too bad the first time round, but when you've listened to it a couple of times it's just blaaaaah

I can honestly say I don't know any songs by Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, or Norah Jones.
I strongly dislike that whole singer/song writer type of heartfelt acoustic guitar music.
Other then that i'm pretty good.
Oh R&B. I tend not to like that either.

I love Aretha Franklin's music, the old stuff.
Michael Bolton...if he stopped yelling, could he sing?
Country music...I like the really old stuff and I love Willie Nelson
Does Brittany Spears sing? I thought she just ran around without

I never develop an aversion so much that it becomes hate. If it's something I don't like, I don't listen to it more. If I'm forced to listen to it, well that sucks, but what can you do?
I dun like Korn or Tool for instance, but I have best friends who are die-hard fans! :)
I like rap though. I'm sure under the right circumstances I could get into those bands I don't like; I just have other bands that fill the void. For instance Nirvana fills the void of all metal or grunge.
You see, one of the first CDs I remember owning was E 1999 Eternal, by Bone Thugs n' Harmony, and it's one of my favourite albums to this day. So when I was in elementary up until 6th grade, I liked all the old rappers: Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and others...then I got a greatest hits by Jethro Tull and got into that! Then the Beatles, then Grateful Dead, then Zeppelin and Eazy E at the same time.
So things I don't like, like new rap or Korn or something, it isn't because it's not good, it's just I'd rather listen to some other artist of the same genre.

Michael Bolton...if he stopped yelling, could he sing?
Once when I was visiting a friend in Connecticut we were driving along and saw a jogger (in the gayest looking coordinated pastel parachute-material jogging outfit that I have ever seen (and I have seen many gay looking outfits in my time)) making a pain of himself by jogging down the middle of the road while there was a perfectly good sidewalk at his disposal. As we passed by him we both shouted out simultaneously "Holy ****! That was Michael Bolton!" Apparently he lives somewhere in CT (or did) and we were driving through his town.
Despite my most persuasive arguments about how we would be doing the world a favor, I could not convince my friend to do a u-turn and run him over.

Gimme your heart, gimme, gimme your heart
Give it, give it
Hands up, baby, hands up
Gimme your heart, gimme, gimme
All your love, all your love
Angel face, I love your smile
Love your ways, I like your style
What can I do to get closer to you?

Don't take advise, don't ask me when
Just come my way, simply kiss me and say

Korean rap. Seriously, specially when they sing non-sense in English. Something like, yo girl I love you. Seriously, they try to make love songs into rap or country into rap.
I love country thought. I hate music where the singer sounds like he's moaning or giving male birth.
Heavy Metal - any kind of it. Why would I want to listen someone screaming? Because that's what they do, no one can tell me that they're singing. E.g. Iron Maiden
I love screaming  my new favorite song is called Scream by Tokio Hotel.
I do hate old disco, too-mellow music and not-catchy music.
Cher: it's a love hate thing. I was watching something called the top 20 best things about being gay and Cher was number 1! Seriously, why would anyone be gay because of Cher? If you're gay because of this them you have a problem.

OK. I will have to admit to really liking Phil Collins AND Genesis (though I think that I like Phil Collins, alone, more). :)
Anyway, I like all kinds of music. I just don't like "modern" stuff all that much any more. There are very few CD's that I will spend the money on nowadays. Music pretty much went downhill in the 90's.
Rap: When I was growing up, I heard a lot of rap from my brothers. I am talking really old school like Whodini and Grand Master Flash. I used to like it. I can't listen to it now. If a rap song (oh, excuse me, Hip Hop) is tolerable, it is because the music was taken from an old rap song or just another song in general! No original music anymore. I absolutely cannot stand that God awful thumping noise that is the music to rap now!!!
Country: With the few exceptions of a catchy song here and there, it is far too pop-sounding for me now.
Pop: No melody anymore. Also wants to sound too much like modern R&B. The girls all sing through their noses and the boys, well, they just aren't good. They can't carry a tune. Nobody has any sort of power to their voices anymore. They all sound so weak!
R&B: I don't know if there was anything better than R&B from the late 70's and the entire 80's. I LOVED that music when I was growing up. Now what is it? Just like pop, there is NO melody to the music. The boys all sound like they are whining and the girls all sound like they are wailing. NOBODY JUST SINGS A SONG ANYMORE!!!!
Rock: God, even that music had a melody at one time!
Finally, Michael Buble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What else is there? I am sure that if I gave it thought I could come up with more, but this is what annoys me the most. Now, I am NOT saying ALL music is like this nowadays. Just most of it. :)
I always tell people that all they have to do is turn on the radio and they will hear WHY I listen mainly to showtunes!!!
Oh, God, showtunes!! They are slowly going down hill, too! Those hideous voices that the women ALL sing with in theater now! Talk about female pop stars singing through their noses! They are also VERY whiny!! Listen to most of the current actresses on Broadway! For example, Kristin Chenoweth.
Anyway, that was my rant for the day. You see, a thread like this should never be started because I will be tempted to go on and on and on about this particular subject! :)

I don't much care for the blowhards in music. I.e. the big, fat, rich rocker types. My mom is currently listening to Patsy Cline, and she has a pretty voice, and the music is actually music, but it bugs me SO MUCH that ALL the songs are about breaking up or whatever. My mom says that what country is all about...
Also rap. That's a given. Rappers fall into the big, fat, rich musicians category. It's so disgusting.
Oh and that new age stuff. To quote Mr. Mothersbaugh:
"I'm not really sure what new age music is, but I think it's where you take certain tones and certain muscial phrases, that if you put them through a speaker and put it against your butt you can cure hemmroids."
Lemme just put down my sammich here and hold down these chords for a few hours...and I'm Yanni. :p

Fergie..I refuse to accpet the fact that she's even a singer!
Rap music...from Eminem to 50 cent to anything in between, it's all a bunch of F-words, nothing more.
R&B..even though I've recently been listening to Rihanna's album, and kinda liked it, but generaly speaking I hate Beyonce and likes of her.
I love ANY kind of rock, alternative rock, nu metal, gothic rock, punk and pop punk, and def. classical music.

The pop music industry today is so manipulated and crass, I just ignore (which, at my age, is just as well.) But truly all the singers look and sound alike, and the lyrics are insipid. Gone is creativity, and when was the last time a strictly "instrumental" tune was a hit?
I prefer the songs and artists that were slightly before my time: Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Mel Tormé. With the possible exceptions of Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel, we don't have songwriters who are the calibre of Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Jule Styne.

Papaya is closest..... Not gay BECAUSE of Cher (although she would be enough to scare ME off of girls, if I weren't already horrified by them); but Cher is an excellent indicator. If you're a young boy (8-15yo) and you think Cher is the greatest thing since sliced bread..... you're gay.... no doubt about it. Same holds true for Babs, Bette, Liza and lets not forget JUDY. (Thats Streisand, Middler, Minelli, and Garland for those that are confused by the gay-speak short-hand.)

rap, R&B, hip-hop, all ("either I'm so happy, I must be in denial, or I'm so depressed, my boyfriend who I've known for two days just broke up with me because he only wanted my body, boo hoo.") songs. Also, the latest in christian music, (praise to the lord for 5 minutes straight, then one line of " 'cause he is good") give me a mellow hymn and organ/acoustic guitar any day.

I can't stand country. Nothing about it is good. Uhh, I can't stand Dizmas, Akon, 50 Cent, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne, New Found Glory, Finger Eleven, Buck Cherry, Soulja Boy (I don't get it!), etc.
I think that there are a few good bands out there though. I listen to everything, minus Country/Bluegrass...
The stuff that I can't stand are those songs that have pointless lyrics that make no sense in the song or the songs that repeat the same thing over, and over and over again (Soulja Boy).
I can't think of anything else...I'm listening to good music, so good bands keep coming to mind.

They made a great album once, called Throwing Copper, but then kind of lost it music-wise, and even went so far as to make an album called Birds of Pray, with the first single called 'heaven'.
Not that there is anything wrong with being Christian musicians, but the album is so over the top silly, it just doesn't work.

Unfortunately for you, it is very difficult to beat techno on noise, since it is just that, noise, and nothing more. It's a constant thudding on the wall, whereas jazz has melodies and variations in speed that are not limited to the 1000 beats per minute. Not to mention the lack of any real instruments. Sampling, sampling and more sampling. There really isn't much creativity or originality in the techno genre.

i like the acronym toni, it's better than my RAP is cRAP saying. one reason i won't go to dances,
1 hour of techno
1 hour of rap
3 minutes of a slow song.
and the dances are just dreadful
guys and girls (h/b)umping each other, then screaming ar saying "yea" while they jump when a new song comes on, then they go back to (H/B)umping each other at a different pace.
once my friend was able to be our Dj, so we went up and sabotaged an entire 30 minutes of music, every rock, metal song we new was there adn then we had a huge mosh pit with the king, queen and court in the center, greatest time of my life, then my friend kept me and my other friends out of it so we were golden.
