I used to read a lot of novels when I was in my early teens, but that habit stopped around the age of 15 when I moved to Canada. I didn't read anything for another 8 years (last year) until my best friend gave me his copy of 100 years of solitude by Gabriel G. Marquez and demanded! that I read it. I did, and I loved it. It then occurred to me that perhaps I should get back into my old habit, and I picked up a book called "on the road" by Jack ... ummm, Jack something. I read the first 20 pages and then I forgot all about the book. But last week, I picked up the novel "Snow" by Orhan Pamuk, winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature. So far I'm very pleased with the book, and I have been reading it every night before bed.
My question is this: what do you think should be the next book(s) that I should purchase? I was thinking of Joyce's Ulysses, but perhaps I'd be better off if I leave that for the future when I've read some more novels, given the fact that apparently it's not the easiest read.
So, any recommendations?

Goethe's The Sorrows Of Young Werther is a fast but quite moving read and a good introduction to his work. I'd recommend it.

If you haven't read any novels in a while, I'd recommend The Kite Runner...it's a great story, easy language and VERY touching.

Is it about the kid in Afghanistan? Because I have that book, but in Farsi. I'm not sure how good the translation is, but if it is indeed about the Afghani kid and was written in Farsi Darri (Afghani), then I'm sure the translation to Farsi is pretty decent.

May be you should try "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" by Patrick Suskind. It's a remarkable book with unusual story and amazing style of writing. There is a film based on it which was released last year.

Well if you liked One Hundred Years of Solitude, you may try Love in Time of Cholera or Of Love and Other Demons, also by Marquez.

Yup, that's the book. I'm not sure about the translation, since I bought the book in English. I hope the translation is as good also.

his is exactly what I am thinking now. I have read just now D.H.Lawrence's the Man he was. Indeed he was a great writer without doubt. Now I am also going to read Joyce's Ulysses. I know I can not read fast this book, and it may take a month to complete the book, and once I complete I will feel I have done a great thing in life of course as a writer.
