So, i am doing a research paper for one of my classes, it's open topic. So i was thinking to draw attention to the dichotomy of romanticism vs. existentialism in the novel. Hemingway's heavy emphasis on nature, the surroundings, the simplicity of a life close to nature, etc is directly opposed by his existentialist portrayal and development of characters and their excessive ways of life.

Problem is, that's all i have so far. Any chance anyone on this forum could aid me with expanding on this idea?

I would replace existentialism with taoism. This is based on character decisions.

Taosim reprensented by Jake Barnes and Bill Gorton.
