I want to get some new piercings. And was wondering, does anyone else got them, if so, how many? Where (if its not improper ;) )?

Do you like your piercings.

Or would you never pierce and hate it in all its forms?

and also, how should I piece my lip?

1. like this (I really like this one)

2. or (this one is second place)

3. or

4. or

or
5. or should I pierce my upper lip? (I don't really like this option)

Vote now! I'm doing it soon. Or paying somebody as soon as I can scrounge up 50$ If it looks cool enough maybe I'll pierce the eyebrow and get some more on the ears :alien:

I want to get a lot but not this much

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w39/a23353140/Piercing.jpg

(I already have 6) I just want about 8 more!

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x226/XxDevilx666xX/thpeircing.gif

So, are YOU pierced?

And does anyone know if you can home pierce your nose and ears without shattering the cartilage? Needles?

You have 6 already!!!? And you want more!!!? Greedy aren't we? But where are you going to put them?...nooooooo don't tell me!!!!

No. I hate piercings of any kind even ear piercings...though ear-piercings is tolerable but not nose one!!!...~:D

There's a lady who lives somewhere around here and she looks quite similar to the one you posted (can't tell if it's a guy or what!). That's actually quite dangerous, you can get serious infections and well, die...

I've got my ears pierced and one more on the top of my right ear, which I still, after 5 years, really like. And although I've considered doing more, I just think I might get bored with it.

I think people used to pierce their ears at home, but Baki be really really careful! Actually, no, just don't do it and go to a specialist! :)

Baki, I don't think they're healthy. And frankly to me very unattractive. You have such a pretty face, why would you want to distort it?

And does anyone know if you can home pierce your nose and ears without shattering the cartilage? Needles?

I know a couple of people who have home pierced their nose and it worked fine but I wouldn't recommend it, the possibility of disaster is so high, it's best to get it done by someone who knows what they're doing.

The only piercing I have, other than my ears, is my belly button. I got it done after I had lost some weight and I love it, it's like a badge of accomplishment. :D

I always though piercings to be extrely attractive. And beside, it's just the lip. If there's any complication, why My mum is a maxilo-facial surgeon!

And lote, is just 6 in the ears. there's still space!

Besides, who has seen a modern musician without piercings?

Baki, I've had my ears pierced three times, in the same place! I eventually get allergic to the metal in the earings and have to take them out. I have some gold ones, but they contain other metals that cause a reaction. My son's girlfriend had her upper lip pierced, looked awful, but had to take it out after 5 days because of infection. I have read that the more jewelry you wear, the more likely you are to have a reaction. The face, especially a pretty face like yours, is not a good place to have an infection. It can cause scarring and in later years, you'd hate that. No to anymore piercings is my vote.

There are home kits for non cartilage piercings. Anytime the cartilage is involved, there is a greater danger of infection and damage. It should only be done by someone trained to pierce cartilage.

1. Piercings are freaky, ew! i don't want any. Hate them

"Eww" is just what I've been looking for to say.

I do wear earrings but those in my ears are the only holes I accept. I'd never wear rings in my nose - what am I, a cow?

@Baki: Try imagining yourself in 50 - 60 years. Do you think, you'd still enjoy holes and rings in your lips/nose/whateverplace-there-is-that-can-be-pierced?

I used to have my eyebrow pierced, now I only have 3 all in my ears. I tend to like the eyebrow and nose piercing but could never warm up to the lip or cheek piercings. I've always and will always get mine done by a professional - i don't trust myself.

My right nipple is pierced. When I still had my left one it was pierced, too.
I have one other that would be inappropriate to mention publicly. (I will add that it makes going through airport security ... um.... interesting, to say the least) I've had them for many years and still enjoy them to this day.

Yeah, piercings are OK. Just don't overdo it!

I like 2 best (is 1 a tongue pierce too?)

If I were you, I wouldn't want more than one more, but hey, that's just me!- I'd say if you had a pierced lip, that'd look good, but much more than that would just distract, you know? As for me, I'm already horribly ugly, so I don't think piercings would be a very good idea. The ears would be all I'd ever consider.

Good luck, and I hope you never get infected :(

I have my earlobes pierced. I like the nose ring a lot, so I have tried nose-piercing some 3 times, but that piercing never healed and I had to close it. I tell myself everytime that this is the last time I am trying and if it didnt work I will never do it again . But as soon as my nose heals, I start dreaming of that diamond nose ring . I should give up now :p or maybe after one last try, I will, DEFINITELY :p :D

in general I'm not too fond of piercings. I'd like one at the top of my ear, but my ears are really small, so it would look ridiculous.
I've got my left ear 'pierced'. well, it's a traditional gold and white glass girlish stud thingy, so I guess that doesn't count as a piercing.
er which ear means you're gay? :blush:I hope my left ear isn't sending out any messages I'm unaware of :D. on the other hand, attracting girls is better than attracting jerks...
I'd hate to have earrings in both ears (especially a set of identical ones). oh horror of horrors!!! the idea makes my hair stand on end
the funny thing is, people tend to see two earrings although I've only got one! do their old-fashioned un-feminist brains just substitute the missing one?

Left ear = Straight
Right ear = Gay
or as you straights see it - Right is Wrong
Although, that may have held true back in the 70 & 80s before EVERYBODY was pierced; but not so much anymore..... I certainly wouldn't hit on someone thinking that they were "on my team" simply because of which ear was pierced. And I think that left/right rule really only applied to men... chicks have always been at liberty to pierce anywhere without implying anything.

No, I am not at all interested in piercing. So many of them even annoy my sight (but I guess one shall respect those people's wish who want to have them). And nearly every woman/girl has them. I'm with Themis Baki. I like piercings and all, but you can overdo it. Think even in ten years when you are looking for a job. Do you want to enter corporate America? Do you want to be a manager somewhere? I think it is unfair, but the reality is that people with many visable piercings and tatoos don't get these positions. Just think really long and hard before you start to pierce your face. No one questions the ears as long as there are only 2 or 3 in each one, and they are not stretched. When you start using the higher gauges (sp?) then you have some troble, but everything else is kind of frowned upon.

The piercings can be taken out for job interviews and the like. My theory was to get piercings instead of a tatto because the piercing, when you got tired of them could be removed. Usually the hole heals up and is barely noticable.

I was already in industry when I got my eyebrow pierced. Before I went on vacation I asked my boss and the VP what the company policy was in regards to piercings - they said there wasn't one. I mentioned that I may get an eyebrow ring, both said they didn't care. So I came back with my eyebrow pierced, he were quite surprised not thinking I would actually do it. I mentioned I might get another, the VP said I wasn't so I didn't but I got my upper ear pierced just to show him.

Left ear = Straight
Right ear = Gay

I forgot all about that "rule"!!
I will always remember that when I was in the 6th grade this boy had his ear pierced. Two of the teachers were talking about him. I can still remember them wondering which ear meant that he was gay. I thought that was such an unbelievable thing that these teachers were even discussing that. It was just weird to me. Why would it matter?

Anyway, I just have my ears pierced. I always planned on getting a second piercing, but I never got around to it. Now, since I have been having trouble with my one ear reacting to what I wear, I have pretty much given up on the idea. I don't care to get infections in 2 holes.

If I were you, though, I would choose the fourth piercing you've got posted here. I think it looks best and would get in the way the least.

You can get a second ear hole easily. Just get a trusted friend, some ice, a sharp earring and some chocolate.

I haven't interviewed anyone with visible tatoos or piercings, but I would be reluctant to hire them. Most people come into interviews in suits and spotless. There are so many things unknown about a potential employee that someone interviewing has no choice but to reach for assumptions. Why would I want to take a chance? Hiring and training a person is a costly thing, and companies are fearful of getting people who will not fit in their organization. If they are not respecting some social demeanor, why would I assume they will respect work rules and cultural norms? And even if they were good, work involves dealing with people and people make judgements. Either people you work with or people that your company is looking to get business from or even just your higher management. That person I'm hiring is in effect representing me at certain levels, and do I want to be associated with people with peircings and tatoos?

I know a guy who had sort of wooden bolts put through the upper part of his ears about ten years ago. I'd known him for some time and was shocked that he would do this to himself. I bumped into him about a year ago and he'd taken them out, leaving horrible big holes. He'd always seemed very confident before and suddenly seemed less so, as if he was constantly aware that people were noticing his mutilated ears.

Another guy I know clearly has tattoos all the way down his arms at the very least. They poke out at the wrists, just below his shirt cuffs and again at the collar of his shirts. I've never seen him in anything but long sleeves, though his job as a graphic designer wouldn't be bar on having tattoos.

An ex of mine had a nose piercing and now regrets it because it won't grow back. Tends to mean she has to have a nose stud in whether she wants to or not, as I understand it. I've also heard stories, possibly apocryphal, of people blowing these out when they sneeze.

And I had a tattoo of an eagle done on my left bicep just after my A-level exams, some 20 years ago. I was just a bit tired and emotional at the time (read drunk). A bit like the guy with the holes in his ears, I've been self-conscious about this bloody thing ever since and have usually covered it with clothing (which means I hardly ever wear T-shirts, though I really like to). I am finally treating myself to the (yes, rather expensive) process of having it removed and am greatly relieved.

All of which puts me in mind of a cartoon I saw once of two old men in a nursing home, both decked out with numerous items of metal in their skin, lightning bolt tattoos all down their arms etc. Caption: 'Yeah, I was an idiot too, back in the nineties.'

Kids, the message has got to be, don't do anything you might later regret. You know how you wake up some days and want to wear something red and another you prefer black or yellow or whatever? Tattoos and some piercings are like items of clothing you never get to take off. Rather than expressing your personality to the full, they express, at best, one aspect of it and prevent the expression of others.

That said, when I was about nineteen and, in addition to the tattoo, had two earrings in my right ear and three in my left, I met an Augustinian monk who was incredibly generous about them, saying how he saw them as similar to his monk's robe – an overt declaration that one was not going to be part of the world of materialism. Some truth in this, especially given the attitude of folks like Virgil. It was certainly close to what I felt at the time – never, at that point, having visited an ad agency.

Yes, I agree with you blp. I believe that piercings scream at the world: I'M AN INDIVIDUAL AND I DON'T CARE IF IT BOTHER YOU!

I can see myself at age 50 with a piercing, maybe I'll leave it there 'til I die.

Besides, if I can wear a hoodie everyday everywhere in FLORIDA, I can pretty much have a ring on my lip,

Plugs on your ears look so weird tho. But tattoos are pretty cool even if they're painful.

I think having a piercing would give me a bust, you know, make me more Bakiryu-y and people should stop stereotyping and experience life to the fullest.

You can take the piercing out during work ours. And wear lip makeup (if female) then it's a bit hard to notice!

True. I'm not trying to be a hard ***. My post is probably more severe than I would actually act in real life. I'm just trying to show that while you're free to act in whatever way you like, there is another person at the other end who is free from his point of view to act as he likes.

A very good post blp. Not sure I'm just talking materialism. I'm not referring to rich, just a basic middle class job. Actually if you're independantly wealthy you don't have to worry about what peircings and tatoos you get.

Yes, I agree with you blp. I believe that piercings scream at the world: I'M AN INDIVIDUAL AND I DON'T CARE IF IT BOTHER YOU!

Baki, I consider myself an individual. I'm as much an individual as anyone who has piercings. What do piercings have to do with real individualism? In fact in the cultural group you're trying to identitfy yourself with, you are being just as conformist as I am in mine.

I have two. One in each ear...I've had them since I was a baby. Two years ago I got one in my cartilege...well, the metal reacted with my ear so it got infected so I had to take it out. But it was not a big loss. Thats probably as many piercings I would get. I agree with Virgil and blp, just don't do anything that you would regret or could compromise what you want to do in life.

A friend of mine got really drunk(she lives in CA, so I wasn't there to stop what happened), well anyways, she was really, really wasted. One of her friends had the bright idea to pierce her tongue...with a nail, and it was rusted. So her tongue ended up getting infected, I won't get anymore graphic then that. So if you do get a piercing, at least do it in a sterlized professional place.

:thumbs_up Applause! Go, Virgil!
I totally agree with uncle Virgil on this point. piercings don't make you any less or more individual. so many people have got piercings (some of them live truly unconventional lives, while others are as plain and boring as they come, apart from the piercing. I mean, seriously I have a friend who's got a piercing in her belly button, but she's the dullest person in the universe. she goes to church, plays on a sportsteam, spends loads of time with her family and future in-laws and is extremely prudish about sex. oh yeah, she also thinks punks are an abomination).
anyway, what was my point? individualism is about who you are inside, not what the outside world thinks you are on account of material things like piercings or clothes. I mean, have you ever noticed how last year those grey and black stripy tops were fashionable and ALL the girls ran to H&M to buy them? I'm sure they all felt very individualisitic, but in the end there were whole armies of grey and black-striped girls!
also, there was this fashion to wear "mismatching" clothes last year. like blue jeans, a red top and a green cardigan or something. but the point was, you could buy them that way. you didn't just pull out any old clothes from your wardrobe and mismatch them. they came that way straight from the store. and voila, everyone was wearing them. now do you think all the boring people you know had suddenly become daring, creative, individual, rebellious etc? or was it just the same old folks in clothes that happened to look all those things but were just another mass craze?

heeheeheehee... sorry to rant so much. of course, if you really want to get a piercing, you should do it and I don't see anything wrong with it.

Ouch! What if someone pulled a belly ring out? I knew a girl whose father did that I think. That's just awful abuse.

I've got one tattoo, a Celtic knot on my chest. Almost no one sees it; which should change at some point! so it's never a problem in that sense. When people do see it I usually get a very good reaction; people love it. So, I will 100% get another tattoo at some point.

Def almost all of my friends have visible tattoos.

Like Virgil's and Sleepy's recent comments, I tend to think that piercings can be just as "conformist," or not, as anything. I have zero piercings (not even my ears) and zero tattoos. My friend used to joke that I could be buried in a Jewish cometary. But I'm a sucker for trendy shoes, so to each his/her own.

I have seen plenty of tattoos and piercings that people probably shouldn't have gotten. But there are always the occasional ones that look totally awesome.

Baki - if you want a piercing, and you like the way you'll look with it, then that's great! It all depends on what it means to you and how it makes you feel.

I like the first picture because I think the piercings on the side of the lip look kind of weird. Like something is falling out of their mouth . . . ;)

I've got 3 piercings and only in the ears. I wouldn't vote on getting a lip piercing, though; no offense but I believe they look extremely unattractive. A nose piercing might be okay but if I were to get one I'd use studs. Still, I have no plans of getting one of these. Perhaps a few more ear piercings would do, knowing that I can easily take the earrings off when I don't want them anymore, then maybe on my belly button (I'm not sure if this is healthy; just for my own safety I could decide not to have one) and after that I'll stop. Some people down here say that piercings look very unprofessional. I would agree. However, I'm sure they'd look great during some of my music performances, after all we're not allowed more than two ear piercings in school.

I have a hole in each of my ears that I've had since I was young, and I'm getting my belly button done on my 18th birthday (a month from yesterday!!).

Wow everyone here has relaively common piercings. I have friends who have some crazy ones. One girl had the back of her neck pierced. It was a cuved bar like that which goes through a belly, but put horizantally through the base of the back of her neck. It was odd looking, and eventually rejected, as all surface piercings do.

My other friend had her cleavage pierced. That is, curved belly bar pierced vertically through the skin between the top of her breasts. As odd as it sounds, I thought it looked really pretty. It ended up rejecting too though.

I dunno. I'm not usually a fan of crazy piercings or most facial piercings. I don't like eyebrows or lips. Nose piercings can be nice, but you have to have the right shaped nose for it, or their too obvious. If it's small and subtle I think it can look nice. Tongues...I would NEVER do that. For a long time I was really against belly piercings as well, because a girl I know had her done and it got infected on the inside and she didn't know and it caused an ovarian cist and she almost had to have an ovary removed. Luckily, that's the only time I've ever heard of it and I have a ton of friends who have it so I'm not so worried anymore. I think it looks nice if you've got the stomach for it.

I really don't think a person should get a piercing in an attempt to increase individuality or try to send a message to others. That's what your personality is for. If you wanna pierce because you think it's attractive, then by all means, go nuts. I just don't think one should use a piercing to make up for something else they're missing.

You can most definately home peirce ears. You need a needle that is very sharp and has been boiled for sterility. Hold an ice cube to the ear for about five minutes. Stab the needle through with a wedge of potato at the back. Something about the starch in the potato makes it hurt less and want to close up less.

I've never liked nose-studs that much, since my brother's ex had it and it got really red and puffy. Her face looked awful. That and I'm chicken when it comes to my nose.

I like piercings, I think they're cool. I'm not increasing my individuality but I am saying to the world "hey, I pierced my lip 'cause I wanted to. Now, what did YOU do?"
I don't really think I'm missing anything (beyond a few braincells  ) and a lip ring would make me look cuter, if not to others to myself. Because Iy shows I'm confident enough not to care what others think.

Another thing, I think in reality people will only treat you better for it. They'll like it and give you compliments on it, etc.. same thing mostly with tattoos. Like maybe some older people wouldn't like it, but who cares about them? The majority of people, and I mean aged 20-45 or so...in fact, I think most everyone would like it. Once you get out of high school, people are much more friendly.

Anyway I think a lip ring would look good. Not a big fan of tongue, but whatever you want to do.

I also have wanted a tatoo and some other piercing, mostly in the ears though (not plugs though, they make your ears smell gross). I say if you want to get pierced, get pierced. I can't anymore because I will student teach next year. With your full lips I vote for 1. I have friends that have them and they really look nice on girls. That being said, my boyfriend hates piercings on girls. They are unattractive to him. Also, my future job will not accept visible piercings like that. Just think about it. The lip piercings will leave scars that will look forever as though you just had a breakout and poped it. Oh, have you thought about having your libre pierced? I can't figure out how to put in a pic so just google it, but beware, there is some XXXXXXX rated stuff in google images when you put anything in about a piercing.

I've pierced my spleen, and both kidneys. My upper lip was pierced in a fight, by one of my teeth. Lets see, I also pierced myself with an awl in art class, clear through the palm of my hand. Finally, I embedded a piece of glass in my palm, that I had for 14 years. Eventually it started to surface, so I had to cut it out myself, as my girlfriend at the time was too squeamish to stick a scalpel into the fleshy palm of my hand. It wasn't even my dominant hand.

If I hate it or take it off, the center of my lower lip would totally hide it, unless you got really close.

This piercing thread reminds me of something my mother once told me a thing her uncle said to her. She said that when she had just got her ears pierced her uncle joked that the rings in the ear-holes were a symbol of slavery. Probably, that's the thing which I heard as a child has remained stuck inside my head that it has also become a factor to why I don't want these, and fear them a little as well. I've known parents that have peirced their infant daughter's ears simply because people kept thinking the child was a boy.
what a cruel performative speech act (or whatever they are called). this way the child will surely become a stereotypical girl.
on a more serious note, I never understood what's wrong with people mistaking little girls for boys and vice versa. I mean, although kids might be little perverts and have a sex-life of their own, they are too young to marry them off. so who cares whether they are boys or girls? I mean, nothing depends on people knowing which one they are. in that respect they are neutral...

I remenber when I cut my hair really short, I had to wear earrings since if i didn't totally straight girls flirted with me or asked me out.

On the bright side, I did get lots of dates :D (Well, Until I actually got a chest,)

i don't really care about piercings, but sanke bites aren't my favorite and most people agree that they look kinda silly. i perfer the one piercing off to one side on the bottom lip. it's simplish but still cool

haha. i have a boyish facial structure and shortish hair, so if i put on a baggy clothes and a hat i look like a boy. i walked around the mall like that once and got a bunch of girls numbers, then i took off my hat and sweatshirt and all the girls flipped out. ^^' it was funny

Lol, that is kinda fun, the looks on their faces too.

I just can't find clothes that are baggy enough now, and the long hair kinda gives it away. :crash:

I'm not sure it was even an issue. I went to a small private school there were 27 kids in my class and we were pretty much all friends.

Who usually do?

It's not common here either, at least in my area.

I got my ears pierced when I was a baby. My mom said I didn't even flinch...they were just plain gold studs or whatever. Its pretty common in latin america I believe...or at least in Mexico, and I'm guessing Cuba. Thats about all the piercing I would get...but I honestly don't care what people do with their own bodies...piercing/tattoo/etc...

I agree. It's a silly thing to get upset about, especially when you're talking about an infant. There may be other times when you do need to be aware of gender identification issues but not in early childhood. ;) If it bothers you that much, dress them in pink or blue, there's no need to be putting holes in their ears. I know we've had a few problems with infants with earrings accidentially pulling them out or another child accidentily pulling them out because those kids don't exactly have full power over their gross motor skills. I have less of an issue with people who pierce young children's ears for cultural reasons than just because they want to define their sex. But then again, it's their child and there are a lot worse things they could be doing to them so I guess in that context, peircing their ears isn't all that bad. I think of myself, my oldest son got his ear pierced when he was 9 and I got so much crap about it from various family members and I just didn't think it was a big deal. It's something he wanted and if he should decide at some point he doesn't want it, he just doesn't wear earrings. There are so many other destructive ways he could be establishing his identity, peircing his ear seemed pretty mild...as does the black hair dye he's added since then. I did establish the rule that he couldn't wear hoops or dangly earrings until he was in high school, only small studs so at least I had some standards. :p

I don't mind piercings on other folks (except maybe that ring that some guys wear dangling from their nose, looks like a bull, you know? -- we have lots of these guys that do it, and they stretch it so that it is a very large cumbersome ring dangling there over their lip. Not attractive at all, in my humble opinion, mind you...).

I only have my ears pierced, and thats how I'll stay. If I had more guts, mind you, I might consider getting my eyebrow done, I think that looks rather sweet.

I would go with #2.

I had eight, but removed them when I joined the army in 2003. I had a reaction to one of the piercings. I don't care for them any more, wish I never had them.

i've never cared for eyebrow piercings, but i've read that you've to get it redone after a few months since it starts going forward or something.

You could always use anesthesia when they do it, like they do back in Cuba.

those nose piercings are ew-y.

I guess I'm a weirdo but I'm 17 and I don't have any piercings whatsoever nor do I want them. I'm fine with other people getting them, I mean its their life they can do what they want, you know? Two of my friends have their ears pierced more than once but that's all that is allowed at my school (private school) but I think that when we graduate they will get more piercings and I think that's actually rather cool, it really fits their personality but as for me, no thank you. I don't even like to wear jewelry. I don't know why but I think it's such a bother. LOL

It doesn't make you a weirdo, most people don't have piercings. I'm 17 as well, I think jewellery's a bother but you don't have to take most piercingz out very often, they just live there. :)

I am pierced sooo... soo disgustingly much. Not counting retired piercings XD.
^I had my vertical labret done, it got really infected and nasty. And upper lip piercings are a horrible idea- they look lovely on a lot of people, but there is no escaping the gum errosion and tooth abbrasion.

I was just writing something quite similar in the thread about tattoos - you are definitely not alone! I'm 25 and I still have no piercings whatsoever and I wear jewelry very very rarely. When I was living abroad in Cameroon I will never forget my host mother being so baffled by my lack of jewelry. She said something like, "what, are you a boy?" I think my grandmother here in the US is equally baffled. :p

Heh amongst some close family members, I am known as a 'tomb-boy' and I can't see why I can be known so! Besides not having piercings, I am quite girl-ish....but erm don't know why piercings are associated with being a girl so much especially when these days it's so common with boys having them too....hmmm probably they are called girl-ish too then...

Back in school, all the little girls had piercings. I didn't, but my mom had all of these awesome earings, parrots and cats and colourful butterflies. I was so envious of her collection. One day, my relatives gave me a pair, not knowing i had no holes. For months, i tortured myself by dreaming i'd had them pierced, waking to find that once again, i still hadn't gotten around to it. One day, i finally got brave, ran to my mom and declared i wanted to have my ears pierced and I wanted it now. "Right now?" yes, or I'd chicken, again. So we rushed to the car, and sped to the saloon, and so, I got little golden stars to decorate my lobes.
Years later, i got so bored of changing them that I kept forgetting to put in earings, and they've grown shut.
However, my mom has now put her fantastic earing collection up for grabs, and I'm very tempted to have them re-done... Very very tempted.

My parents were great believers of choice... So, yeah, trust me, at the time i was plenty cross at them for not having done it when i was a kid.
My mom had hers done when she came to Indonesia since everyone there had to, so she had someone do it for her with needles in the jungle :)

I don't see the point of getting little children's ears pierced either. When they grow up, if they are willing, they will do it anyway - whether you agree with it as a parent or not! ;)

I was 17 when I had my ears pierced.

This is close to the point I wanted to make: The times I have had my hide pierced or even slashed by accident or necessity will do very nicely, thank you very much. ;) I feel absolutley no need or urge to increase the number of scars volountarily.
