I def. don't live in the best city in the world. Cairo is one of the most crowded and polluted capitals in the world.

Cape Coral is hell on Earth. Don't go there unless you have someone to entertain you.

I am not sure about it being the best city in the world but while comparing it with other cities in my country, I think it's quite good. Has its faults too (and outsiders usually don't like this city) but I feel there is lesser 'fast life' here (I like slow) No doubt there are not many spots here for teenagers to hang out (which can be considered a disadvantage) or that thinking of many people is belonging to the olden-times and is quite a religious society but still I have this fondness for it which I think would hardly ever leave.....it's such a contented place......and I have friends here......it's the place where I used to cycle and wish could cycle now......and oh the gardens of mangoes lie here which I used to look at while on the school bus and wished to jump from the bus and fall right into them....
Weather can be problematic in summer, though. But we have a lovely Winter. :D

It all depends on what you want out of a city, I think.
I don't live in New York at the moment, but it's the most major city that I'm geographically closest to, and I have lived there. I wish I could, but it's too far from my obligations. Alas.
New York is pretty awesome. But there are lots of cities in the world that I haven't seen and that I'm sure have plenty, if not more, to offer. What I love about New York is that it has stores, restaurants, etc from all over the world. It really seems like you could find anything you could ever want or need in New York.
I also love that the mass transit system runs 24 hours a day (beat that, Paris!). And that it's pretty easy to do what you need to do, no matter the time of day or day of the week (closed at 5?! closed on Sunday?! what is that about!)
I don't think that I could say that New York is the best city in the world because cities can be so diverse and amazing in different ways. If anyone is familiar with Rem Koolhaas' work on Lagos, Nigeria - that is a whole different urban environment that is just fascinating, although also quite scary (I will probably never be brave enough to travel there)

It's not a city, but a town of about 300.000 citizens. It can offer what a town needs to offer, but there still are very peaceful and quiet parts in it. And I love it.
I live in the best township, how 'bout that? :D

This used to be an awesome city, a nice small quiet town, then they had the brilliant idea of developing it all and now theres nothing good about it.

Here, here! I love New York City. The energy, the glitter, the museums, the music, the restaurants (the cusine of every single nationality can be found here), the beauty (it really is a beautiful city with believe it or not has lots of parks), the colleges (we have dozens to choose from), the jobs, the cultures (we have all sorts of neighborhoods, from African-American to African to Jewish to Muslim to Irish to Italian to Caribbean, ect.), the best pizza in the world :D , and activities galore. We're called the city that never sleeps, and for a large American city we have the lowest crime rates (let me put in a plug for fomer Mayor Rudy Guilliani and his successor Mayor Mike Bloomberg who have done a great job) and fairly solid financial standing.
Now the bad side: it's damn expensive to live here, the cost of living is out of sight. I don't know how young people can afford a house here or an impartment if you ask me, and everywhere you turn the government has their hands in your pockets. Bridges and tunnels cost $5 each way. I went into Manhattan last night to the Philharmonic. I have to cross the Verazano Bridge and the Battery Tunnel to get from Staten Island to Manhattan. That's $20 in tolls round trip. And I couldn't find a parking spot, so I had to go to a parking garage and that cost $32. That's $52 not incuding gas, dinner, and the cost of the show. That's outrageous. And traffic usually sucks, although off commuting hours is not too bad.
All in all, I love New York City, and although I complain about the taxes and the cost of living, I woud find it hard to live anywhere else.
I leave you with an interesting photo looking from Brooklyn across to Manhattan.

Why should I? There's no such thing as the best city, there are good places to live but they have their faults, and bad places with maybe some upsides.

 That's called a city in my language and culture, the place I'm from is about that size and no one would call it any less than a city. An average sized city but still a city...
Hardly anyone seems to want to say where they're from.
I live in London. It's pretty bad.

From all the cities I have seen in the world, I do think NYC is da best :D
Where I live now...well, it's awful. A beatiful place in terms of climate(unless during the summer) and landscape....but my gosh, it is in every other respect an awful, awful place.

Give me a break. I live in Cleveland, for God's sake. We have a world-class art museum...which has been closed for two years for expansion and is slated to be closed for another 3 or more (idiots!). We have one of the greatest orchestras in the world. We have very reasonable rent and real-estate... and not much else of any value. On the flip-side we have the highest foreclosure rate in the nation (thanks to National City, now on the verge of collapse). We did have the highest poverty rate for a while but Detroit, New Orleans (no surprise there) and somewhere in Mississippi passed us this year. Our schools and infrastructures are a shambles. Our politicians are all crooks or idiots and only Detroit and New Orleans are losing population faster. What's not to love?:sick::eek2:

I didn't realize Cleveland was that bad. At least you have the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. ;)
It's so great living in the countryside. :D
I live in Toronto. It is a rather nice major city (low crime, great ethnic cuisine, and a decent amount of entertainment). Of course, our Opera hall doesn't compare with the Met (We have a good hall, but we don't have James Levine or any of the big singers). Our orchestra is good, but unfortunately the director/maestro is not. As for night life, if you don't like sporting events (like me) there isn't really much to do. I would love to live a while in a major European city, like Paris or Florence, but to settle down, and grow up, Toronto is pretty good. Of course, the weather is terrible.

Yep... and we all live for that.
We also have the Cavs, Browns, and Indians who might just win something during my lifetime, but I'm not holding my breath. And the weather! Just fabulous! Nothing like lake effect snow! Actually, after the orchestra... which is so good I can't figure out how we manage to sustain it... the best thing about Cleveland might be the fact that it is within a easy day's driving distance from pretty much every major cultural/artistic center in the North-East: Washington, Pittsburgh, Toledo, Chicago, New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Toronto, and even Detroit (if I ever get that kevlar vest). As an artist there's hardly an art museum in North America of any importance I haven't been able to visit.

Without claiming it to be the best city in the world, I actually sincerely love; macché love, I irrationally adore Rome - but then again I am pretty flexible and tend to notice good things before the bad ones (still a child, yes :D). Still, I think Rome is an excellent city for the lover of art and music.

I live just north of Toronto at the moment, and toronto is alright, but my favourite city that I've lived in is Vancouver, well it is my favourite city that I've been too... Though it doesn't have the heritage or the beauty of buildings, etc, that many older cities have.. the natural beauty of Vancouver in my opinion is almost unrivalled.. with the parks, and the old growth forest basically within the city, the mountains surrounding the city, the pacific ocean's georgia straits right on the western side... It is such a naturally beautiful city, though it does have it's bad areas, but even from them you can see the beauty, to the north east and west... going into north and west vancouver, you basically walk out of the city into the wilderness, into old growth temperate rainforests with towering fir and cedar and spruce trees, snow capped mountains, rugged wilderness, wildlife... it is wonderful..

I really enjoyed my week in Rome. I can see myself living there. The eternal city. SPQR. ;)

The truth is that I live in the worst place conceived on the earth's surface. It's like the Sicily you see in movies but instead of macho Italians you have half naked chauvinistic men with bloated tummies. You walk on the sidewalk expecting a jeepney to run you over.
