have you already had your five a day (http://www.5aday.nhs.uk/WhyEat5aday/WhyEat5aday.aspx) today?
do you find it hard to keep track of your fruit and veg? post how many portions of fruit and veg you had here, to help you keep track.
Nope, potatoes are not veg and chips/frenchfries are not potatoes. neither are crisps/chips
I've had the following so far today:
1.small portion of salad
2. a bowl of canned plums (not sure they count though)
3. 3 fresh figs
4. one banana
5. 2 carrots

Well, today I've mainly had vegetables but no fruit...so I can't say I do follow the '5 a day' rule.
I personally don't think it's all that easy for everyone to eat 5 well measured portions of different veg+fruit. I know it takes into account dried or frozen food as well, though you'd have to eat more of that to sum it up.
And anyway, there are other things that contribute to a healthy diet which are also sometimes forgotten.

yeah, I know. but I like the 5 a day rule anyway, because it gives you clear instructions. most previous campaigns were like "eat a lot of veg, it's good for you". that's kinda vague and you don't really know how much they mean so you easily forget to eat your fruit and veg.

I haven't eaten anything yet. It's about 3:10 pm and I just got back from school. I had a strawberry twisler if that counts. And I'll eat some potatoes and spinach (maybe some Spanakopita) for lunch.

Isn't it easy for a vegetarian to have five a day? Wouldn't you starve if you didn't? ;)

yes, I think so. not sure about the beans, though. I think they count as carbohydrates or something?

well beans are a pulse vegetable and are high in High value protein. Good supplement to meat if you are a veggie.

sorry to disappoint you kilt, but potatos and rice are definitely carbo-hydrates (healthy ones, I guess; I'm not a folloer of the low-carb diet when carb means potatoes, rice, pasta), they don't count as veg in the 5 a day thingy

Between my mother's grape vines and mine one grape vine we have produced tons of grapes this year. I have been eating at least a pound (.454 kg) of grapes every day for the past month. I think that must count for 10 servings each day. Thank God we are almost finished with them.

I envy you. I love grapes. I could eat them everyday, make grape jam, grape ice-cream, grape frosties. Grapes!
1. raisins
2. tomatoes (on bread)
3. some pickles
4. 4 glasses of orange juice
5. A banana
Does that count?

yep, I think that's pretty neat.
I wonder if nuts count. will look it up
edit: hey Virg, can you make raisins yourself? like put all those grapes in the oven or something? i've never heard of it, but that would be a way to get rid of all those grapes. but you'd have to eat a lot of home-made muesli then to get rid of the raisins :)

How do you make grape ice cream? I tried jam but it didn't come out very well.

They are white concords. I don't know if you have those in Europe. Concords are a sweet American variety. Very hearty in that they can withstand a hard winter. Red Concords are most common. I have white. Very sweet. Only negative is they have large seeds which can be annoying.
