Little Lady Luck

These rivers of words before my eyes
Deliver a tale without surprise,
For I have sailed this story once before.

My fingers attempt to turn the page
but linger and wilt in summers' rage.
This young September sun I can't ignore.

An ally, the shade betrays his oath;
Allowing the rays to beat us both.
We shrink beneath the oak of which we lie.

Conceding the win to sun and earth,
I yearn for the day of Autumns' birth,
Then start to stand and tell my tree goodbye.

But there on my knee I feel a touch
Of slightest degree but just as such,
to make me stop and take attention there.

A princess of love in black and red
And giver of luck - or so it's said.
A little ladybug, minute and fair.

I study her there upon my knee.
She raises a hand and waves to me.
It gives me hope and reasons now to stay.

Along comes a cloud; the sun is gone.
She's hidden in veil upon her throne.
And lady luck and I enjoy the day

A different cadence, but a wonderful poem.
