like most people,
who lose a loved one,
i feel more than a little empty.
the door behind you,
i've left it open,
for the day i hope you return.
but now on the blistery days,
i can feel it rattling,
hammering inside my heart.
the open door let's all the breezes in,
let's them breathe their chilly whispers,
and now i've no one here to warm me.

Essentially, i think the question,
is when i'll assemble the courage,
to slam the open door.

Wow this poem rings true for me right now in my life.
I have my own door left open for the hope that certain someone will walk back through it. This poem is very good.

Thank you. my dear beloved and i went our seperate ways. Right now i don't feel like i could ever love again. I think it's important to close the door. Let someone else step in. but perhaps most important, is that i will never lock it, his door, he shall always be welcomed here.

Wow, Chava! What a fabulous poem and such imagery... Grief is indeed an open door, and closure never comes until acceptance. Many think to close the door will bring forgetfulness, so they fear to close it. Memories never die. Life must go on, and in order to do so, we must shut that door.

Great job on this poem!

There has been so much praise for your poem that I hate to spoil it for you.

But when I read your poem I thought, "She says too much". I think the first few lines are superfluous. The readers can figure that out for themselves - by interpreting the following lines, which are really excellent.

And the last two lines are excellent, too, but why do you have to add the line "Essentially I think the question is"? It sounds like prose, just like the first three lines. Why not ask the question "When will I ..." or make a prediction like "One of these days I will ..."?

Your imagery is so strong, it conveys such a deep feeling, I'd love to reread your poem without the prose parts.

i think this is a beautiful poem. it definitely conveys the emotions of losing someone and trying to let them go. i also love how it could be about either someone dying or a painful break up, though i guess the feelings we go through for both are sometimes the same. xo.

Oh that is too bad Chava. Rest assured, you will love again and I'm sure you will find someone justright for you. That was a nice poem. I enjoyed.
