We made love beneath the pier
embedded in the sand,
cold, hard love,
exciting love,
the kind that lingers on
for days,
repeating
in the bruises on your elbows,
and the small of my back.

Afterwards we lay embedded
in the sand,
listening to the sounds
of the ocean,
and the footsteps
stomping, cold and hard,
on the boardwalk above.
Interspersed,
the excitement of children
bubbled through
the slats,
repeating.

I left you there
with our love,
cold and hard,
embedded in the sand.

So often, people will comment that this or that poem is their favorite by so and so, but I have such a hard time doing that, until maybe now. This poem of yours stirs me. So evocative.

Good poem. Good pylon. And a poem that leaves one thinking with your last stanza... Which I do believe you intended!
