Hey everybody! I'm going to Amsterdam (soon) but I'm only gonna be there a day and a half...I would really like to make the most of it...so any suggestions from people who live there or from people who have been there?
What to see? Where to eat? Do's and Dont's? Where to buy cheap "quintessential" Holland souvenirs?? (Including the football jersey that lots of people are asking me to bring back....)!!
I've been reading lots of guide books and stuff online..but there's nothing like tips from locals...
Thanks!!!!

I went to Amsterdam about 8 years ago. You need to go see the Anne Frank house and if you get a chance you should go to one of those cheese-making, windmill type places and pick yourself up some souviner wooden shoes and a block of cheese.
And on your way out, just visit the Red Light district. When I was there, they had a manly fountain
Pot is legal there also so if you're interested, you should go to one of those establishments and light up. I did not visit one when I went, but that's reason enough for some people to visit.

thanks Shalot...I got all that down already...Anne Frank House, the wooden shoes...(I wonder how much those things cost?)....what's a good place to eat though? Keep in mind that I'm there on a budget :) Oh and by the way..I'm staying near the Red Light District so I'm sure I'll get lots of "sights" to see :)

Oh well I don't know then. I went on an educational tour and they had all that stuff planned out. I got lucky. My cousin had to give up her ticket and couldn't get a refund so I went in her place. I think those wooden shoes were expensive so I ended up not getting any.
I thought someone on the forum was from there - is it Aimus? Maybe he knows.

Be aware of Luka Modrić! This summer he will be one of the greatest stars in Austria and Switzerland.

Thanks Manolia.... ;) My "research" is going well...considering. All the different books about Amsterdam say the same thing.....so....I guess if I see those places....I'm all set :)
