An orgy was going on. She was sitting in a corner with a bottle of rose' in her hand. The cold outside has made her shiver, which is why she got in here…
She was watching a little girl with her father sitting in a church. Then she realized- she herself was the little girl. She was doing nothing but remembering her past.
“Father, what are those?” -- she heard her little voice asking her father as she saw the priest in front of Mother Mary.
“Those are rosary beads.”
“Why is the priest counting it?”
“Because it’s part of our religion”… …
Next thing she heard was her father saying, “I’ll never leave you Roxette. Father will always be there for you.”
And in the last month of that year her father left her forever. She heard her mother,
“Father’ll be in heaven Roxette. It’ll be fine. I’ll always be there to take care of you.”
And the next thing she heard was,
“I’m going to marry Mr. Jeff. Then we can both take care of you.”
When she was ten her mother said,
“Why don’t you go to town? In this country’s current instabilities, it’s never possible to look after a grown up girl like you…”
She has gone to the town. The next thing she remembered was an ugly man putting an ugly dirty thing inside her, taking her breath away in pain. And then there was David, asking her, “Are you an angel from heaven?” After staying with for a few days she had thought her father was given to her in another beauty.
She heard an unknown voice, and jolted back to the present. The barman was asking her, “Are you alright, mademoiselle?” She glimpsed at him, “Yes, I am, indeed. Can I have a gin?”
“I’m afraid its costly….”
“I have money, I’ll pay you.”
He gave her gin. And again she drifted back to her past…
She has gotten married to David.
She remembered the beautiful angelic face of her daughter, smiling at her.
“Why don’t we name her Rose?”, David was saying.
“You can lose everyone, but not David and Rose.”, she told herself.
And the next thing she heard- “I’m sorry Roxette. I’m marrying Elizabeth. You know the ministry situation is not so well. If I don’t marry her I won’t get the job. I told them that I’m not married, so that I can earn money and can take care of you and Rose. If you don’t mind… why don’t you stay over as a maid in here? When Elizabeth won’t be here I’ll make love to you. If you get yourself out with Rose now, then you’ll have to die in this situation.”
And she decided to die.
She got herself out with Rose, trying hard to find a job anywhere, anyhow. She knew she was the only one left to take care of Rose.
She got a job in a hotel. One day when she woke up Rose was not there beside her. She didn’t know where her little girl has gone, the girl who can’t even walk properly. There was chaos outside. She got herself out.she saw smoke everywhere, sound of gunfiring was heard in the distance and everyone was running hapazardly. she tried to grab everyone's hand and asked where her little girl was.But no one cared to answer her.she ran through streets like a crazy person. and she found her daughter smashed against the cold dusty road. she starred at her for sometime and it was then that she heard herself scream, “R..O..O..O..S…E…”
She heard a man’s voice, “Are you fine? You are not having anything without drinks for the last few months. You are going to die if you carry on like this. You’re having some great problems in your lungs.” She spent every penny of the money she’s kept for Rose in one year while working on the hotel, on drinks.
Suddenly she saw her father, in a white shiny dress. “Come my child. It’s your time”
“Father, did you see my Rose?”
“Yes. She is with me.”
She saw her beautiful daughter behind her father, calling her. She was gleeful in the light, and went them.
In the morning, everyone in the orgy was boundering a twenty year old girl.
“Who the hell is she?” Someone asked.
“I don’t know. She was calling a name…Rose I think…” the barman answered.
“Poor girl.”
“Didn’t she get a nicer place to die?!”
And someone laid her in front of a church door and was gone.
The priest and sister of the church buried her in the churchyard. And someone wrote in white stone slab of her grave “GOD’S CHILD”, as no one knew her name.
