I've just read the first volume of the Artemis Fowl series and liked it alright.
have any of you read the other volumes? are they worth reading?
how do you like the characters? did you find yourself rooting for Artemis or the LEP? I must admit I find Artemis extremely unpleasant (especially as the hero of a childrens' book).

Ah but you'll start to love him as they go along sleepy! I've read all of teh Artemis Fowl books and love them. They are an enjoyable kids book. One of the quotes in my sig is from artemis fowl.
I love the LEP. Foley the centaur being one of my favourite characters throughout the whole series. And not to mention good auld Mulch Diggums!:D Wouldnt want to come across THAT dwarf at the wrong end!:p
The other books are worth the read. Eoin Colfer has a very good imagination to come out with that series.
How are you finding the language? Alot of it is real Irish lingo and slang and a lot of the humour is very Irish as well. Probably why i like them so much cause i can get alot of the jokes in the books.

hehe, I had a feeling you'd reply to this thread Niamh :)
yep, Foaly is great and the Mulch bum flap episodes were the passages where I laughed out loud
i found the language OK except for one or two Irish words I didn't know.. of course I don't remember them :( it was a very quick read. i started on Friday and finished it last night.

Well if you come across any words you are uncertain of just ask me and i'll help.
Of course i'll have read them:p hehehe! I had a whole LEP holding cell in haven thing in my location under my avatar for about six months.:p That was when i had "the Leprechauns made me!" under my username.:D
They maybe making them into a movie. aparently Robert De Niro wanted to play mulch. could you imagine that! Funny!
The next book The Artic Incedent isnt as good as the first. took me a couple of reads to really get into it. The Eternity Code is very enjoyable. Dont know where Eoin Colfer gets his ideas from. Opel Deception is quirky but there is a big shock at the beginning of the novel. and the last one to come out The Lost Colony is comepletely different to the rest. Theres is another one due out next year. I've been reading them since the First book came out. Saw it review on the book Show on bbc? and thought it sounded good and when out and bought it. Thats the only time i've ever done that.

When I first read the series I greatly enjoyed them; laughing uproariously and crying in turn, though, on returning to them, i have found nothing to rave about

Hi, I read the first 2 when I was 13, at that time I thought that it was way better than Harry Potter.... I think that he was a completly different hero, compared to those you come across in most books for kids... and that made it special...

Artemis is a realy anti Hero. And i definitely think they are better than Harry Potter.

I've always preferred Artemis to Harry, but when it comes to book series i just found that i couldn't get back into the Artemis fow'l books the second time around, and could with the Harry potter books. sounds like that's just me though

They have been in discussions about it for years. came to the point that IMDB just took it off. Jim Sheridan is supposed to be directing it. A lot of it has to do with finding the right Artemis. Can have just any kid play him. Artemis did get completely over shadowed by Potter.
Did you read the latest one? Time Paradox? was brilliant!

I would hate it if they made an Artemis Fowl film, I think they would ruin Artemis

I began reading the Artemis Fowl books at twelve, when I actually was the same age as the protagonist--it's so strange to age faster than a series, like Harry Potter. Artemis Fowl is creative and fun, and I'd be interested to see how they would go about a movie.

Niamh I liked the latest book too, and I heard there might be a seventh. He's just finished the sixth installment of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I think he said he'd start on the next Fowl after that.

I just read finished reading the first three books yesterday! SO GOOD! LOVED ARTEMIS!! Although I wouldn't compare it to Harry Potter, which I remain loyal to, it is definitely worth reading. How could anyone not like Artemis? I think he is an amazing character. I guess the idea of a child-genius-evil-criminal-mastermind just really appeals to me. He is so clever, and I love how evil he is! But he does have a kind side, too. And I love how his nails are always manicured. Although I didn't like Holly that much... liked Mulch, though. And the books are so funny... love the two dumb bodyguards, Chips and Pex. Hehe. I really hope he writes more, and they make a movie about it! But of course, they could never find a perfect Arty:)
