'select 3 aspects of ingsoc and discuss how effectively the party has used social agencies to control the populus.assess to what extent those same agencies have been effective in socialising you.'

i know that the social agencies are parents, friends, education, government,media, ideology.

i really don't know what to write.

Haven't read the book for a while, but some of the was that the people were controlled.
1) Control through language - Newspeak etc. Once you control the populations vocabulary, you can control and limit the number of things that a person can express and define. Such as legitimate and justified rebellion.
2) Leading to thought control - 'Doublethink' Creating such an atmosphere of pervasive paranoia that the people will correct their own thoughts and doubts if it does not agree with Ingsoc ideology. Think about the end of the book. How far can this be taken, how far does it wok for Orwell?
3) War - Perpetual state of manufactured war meaning the populace accepts constant shortages of products and amenities.

OK, now apply these things to yourself. How does advertising create value for its product? What language do they use? How does media - newspapers, TV influence your view of the world? Digital media - is the internet and huge leaps in communications a liberating factor, oranother system of control.

Think about it, the way to make this essay interesting is for you to use your own examples. How are you influenced and controlled?
