filling the silence
when we’re new
our times together are filled with words
“would you like more coffee?”
spoons clinking against our cups
surrounded by music … and the conversations of others
we exchange smiles, nods, laughter
“tell me more”
but the depth of us is revealed
when we are together in silence
a glance across the pages of our books
a touch of fingers as we fill our wineglasses
a wordless toast to our future

So true. And beautifully put. You must dream in poetry. It seems every morning you have some wonderful bit of it for us.

Thanks, Granny. A lot of these are old ones, pulled out of the archives. But you're partly right! Somedays I *do* wake up with a line in my head. LOL!

Thanks, Granny. A lot of these are old ones, pulled out of the archives. But you're partly right! Somedays I *do* wake up with a line in my head. LOL!
And the line in your head
leads you gently or urgently along.
Following the line
you may find yourself
back where you've always
wanted to be.
lovely poem! (Yours, not mine).

Thanks, Jer. Now I just need to make sure that line in my head doesn't have a fish hook attached to the end. ;)

But there must be a hook. Can't you see all the litnetters hooked to your poetry? ;) :D
Great poem, cdn. Very touching.

What is it about modern (contemporary) life that we feel
compelled to make noise? If we're not talking, we have to have music playing or the television blasting. Mother Teresa once said, and I'm sorry I can't quote her exactly, but she said:
"It is in the silence of the heart that God speaks to us."

Yes, AuntShecky, I agree. People today find it very difficult to be quietly exposed to their own thoughts. We are a fast-moving, technologically-drawn, hooked-up/hooked-in society. Thanks for your comment. :)

Noise Versus Music
Noise is everywhere in modern life,
And people are drawn to it—
As if it could really provide
Their every little need
Which it won't...
But now music is such a different thing
Dulcet tones of rich golden harmony,
That sometimes resounds echoes
With beat of angel wings--
Heaven on earth...
It is quite certain that with the entire daily racket,
People may not hear the things that matter—
Lose sight of who we really are.
The Still Small Voice
Goes unheard...
Beyond the noise and crashing sounds,
There are those who are listening—
Not to what the background
Resounds with or brings,
They hear the words...

Beautiful poem, Pen. Thanks for leaving it here. :)
Thank you, Symphony! And I'm glad to hear that you're freeeeeeeeeeee!!! Any idea how you did on exams? How much time do you have off before classes begin again? (My exams ended May 31st, and my first class of the new year is next Wednesday! Gulp!)

Ah I'm (sooooo...) glad too. :D I'm not sure about chemistry, but most of the other exams went well :)
Classes will start next month, but I've got a hundred other business to take care of till then, none of them are as repelling as exams though. :p
But unfortunately this was just the Pre-Test exams and Test exams are coming alarmingly soon. So I've got to keep preparing for that, which means I'm not really as free as my signature may depict. :(
And your classes start next Wed? Thats not far... hope you enjoy them :) :thumbs_up
