Is Art an End in itself or a means by which we explore the Human Condition, the human imaginations, the human psyche?

So to say there is an "Elitist" Art and non-Elitist Art is a misnomer?

My mom has a drawing of a turkey that I did in third grade on her refrigerator - she calls it art.

I have several that are very much like that and I think they are art. Mother's are usually correct, too.

Wikipedia defines art as the following:"Visual art is defined as the arrangement of colors, forms, or other elements "in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium".
So art is subjective, whether it's visual, musical, acting, or in written form. Each one of us will define art differently and we will all be correct.

Granny5 you jumped the gun! It is a requirement to ask Lote to define the item of which he is discussing, so we can watch 3 pages of posts appear in which he avoids the question.

LOTE DEFINE ART!!!!

Papayahead - I love your turkey! I have a picture of a bonfire that my son made entirely out of handprints :)

Why does it have to be either or? Can't it be both?

My first impression was it was a hand with a bleeding thumb :D

Then I saw the turkey :D

Art is Surely Deceptive :D

Supreme Being - Gran has already defined art.

Generally art is a (product of) human activity, made with the intention of stimulating the human senses as well as the human mind; by transmitting emotions and/or ideas.

I once tried to define art, but the art got lost in the process.

Very insightful! Too bad that's a thought that is often ignored.
