inspired

i slip out the side door
my bare feet scatter the gathering puddles
leaving wet prints that mark my passage

i welcome the sunbeams
that pierce the retreating clouds

i stand in the wet grass
toes firmly planted in the soil
face lifted to the sky
arms outstretched, palms upturned
collecting those last few drops
that haven’t yet realized
that the storm is over

Oh, I can just see you out there. Beautiful. It reminds me of me and my brother sneaking out into the rain on a summer's morning, everything so fresh and clean. Thanks for sharing, Cdn.

The one "thing" that I do miss about my old life is my quiet back yard, the secluded deck tucked under the lilac bushes where I spent most of my summer reading, and my pretty perennial gardens. I worked so hard on those gardens, and then just up and left. What was I thinking?? :(

What a lovely memory. I especially liked the puddles. I used to love the feel of mud between my toes.

Thanks for this Cdn.

10/10 points. So well structured, beautiful lines, a very original way of writing about the subject (especially the ending), and then, on top of everything, the title: "Inspired". A truly inspired poem. I loved it!

where do you get such warmth! your poems are always so filled with faith,hope,optimism...and that's what I always like about your poems.and this one also contains the same elements(a great deal more than the others).loved it,cdn.

There's something about the final lines:

that haven’t yet realized
that the storm is over

that is almost hauntingly longing, CDN
