Looks like you've got a good start under way.

There are several reasons why 1984 is considered a classic, and my personal rating has them like this:

The definitive dystopian novel
Orwell's literary skill
The uses of language as a behavioural tool
Allegorical rendition of "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"
Technology can be used for really bad things
Fear and phobias
Propaganda works

The key thing when writing about 1984 is to try to think of something outside of what teachers/lecturers will expect. Symbolism alone is an enormous subject, with symbolic values all the way through the book.

I like to take the approach that because it's such an enormous book in terms of content, pick one small area and exploit it fully, rather than try to brush a few broad strokes on some of the "bigger" subjects.
