I vote for Babylon 5.
Yes, there is more to Sci-Fi than Star Trek and dr. Who.

Of course there is: There's also Dead Like Me, Stargate, HEROES! Dr. who is just the best AND the only one with a TARDIS.

There is no contest between the two.
They are two different category.
Star Trek should be compared with Far Scape, Babylon 5, Stargate...
Dr. Who is on a category of it's own and it's British :D

I like Star Trek in it's own category. And Dr Who on it's own category.
Star Trek is my highest aspirations for humanity. Dr. who is my Ego :D

No. Not biased because they are different category and hence no contest.

Puh, Red Dwarf.
Battlestar Galactica (Orginal, Re-imagined whichever you prefer)
The short lived, but clever show Firefly
Farscape
Space: AaB
X-Files used to be good, went downhill in the end.
The Prisoner
Twilight Zone
Anyway, mine was a protest vote. I can't be bothered to start a whole thread about my favourite show, so instead I'll just list the lot of them now, throw them all on a big pile and call them good enough for me to watch and enjoy.
By all means cary on with your voting. It's what I would do if I wasn't so pre-occupied with watching Power Rangers make short work of plastic monsters. NOW THAT IS SCI-FI FOR YOU! :p

hehe, I'll admit I'm biased any time :) but see, my free time is limited, my brain is the size of a pea, they dubb series here and I won't watch them in German, so Star Trek is all I can do :)
Aimus, is X-Files Science Fiction?

All turnips are vegetables, but not all vegetables are turnips.
Aimus, is X-Files Science Fiction?
It most certainly is. Sci-fi is a very broad definition. It is not all about time travel and spaceships and aliens and lasers.
(Even though I think the X-files has all of that. :))

Oooh, I didn't know you were a firefly fan, Aimus? That's very cool
See, Payaya? More proof that it's an outstanding series.
I voted for Star Trek, of course. I have seen a few episodes of Dr. Who and just had a hard time connecting to it. Oddly enough with my devotion to TOS and Firefly, I'm not a huge fan of the sci fi genre, just those couple of shows.

It's already on my Netflix list.:D
X files. I forgot about X files and I was just telling somebody about the Peacock family....and the great mutato...man i love the X files. Not as much as Star Trek though.
In order of greatness:
1. Star Wars
2. Star trek
3. X files
4. Dr. Who, Eureka
5. Stargate Atlantis
6. Buck Rogers, Planet of the Apes
7. Alf
I feel like I'm missing something.....

Puh, Red Dwarf.
We don't get this anymore and it is my most favorite! I wonder if I could get all of them on DVD- I would have to drop out of school just to watch
I just put all of the red dwarfs on my netflix!! I'm so excited. I have to send some back now so it will come in. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner- they have Dr. Who too!

I agree the comparison is not fair. If it were strictly based on movies, I would vote for Dr. Who. But I really enjoyed and have fond memories of the original Star Trek TV series. So I voted for Star Trek.

Of course it had to be Dr. Who, I fairly dislike the 'holier than thou' attitude of Star Trek as humans go around the universe being 'better' than any other species they encounter. They also fail to stick to their own rules, pretty much most of the time. The only saving grace for Star Trek is Q. I love Q. There's no way he'd have been interested in Janeway.
I like the new generation Battlestar Galactica - that's a gritty series and shows the best elements of Sci-Fi by dealing with complex moral and social issues and turning them on their heads. In the new BSG it's the humans who are the terrorists, consider suicide bombings, genocide, and the like. Makes you think about things in a different way.
Stargate and Atlantis are also pretty okay, though again they fall foul of not sticking to their own rules.
RED DWARF RULES!!!!
Who was it that mentioned Dead Like Me - was it Baki? Baki, you have such good taste, I loved that series. Did you ever watch Carnivale? (getting slightly off subject). Carnivale was excellent, but like most excellent, slightly off the wall US series it was cancelled.

yeah, that's one thing I dislike about Star Trek, too. plus, why are there so many humans in Starfleet? I thought it's the Federations military/science fleet, and surely humans do not dominate the Federation in terms of numbers? I guess the reason is it was too bothersome for them to do all the alien make-ups, except when we see the Federation Council in the films or when some extras walk by (they don't have to spend half their lives in make-up and get it done every day).
what makes me sceptical is this myth of "the Star Trek philosophy" and "the society of Star Trek", but we never learn just how this society is achieved. some fans say it's because they've got unlimited resources.. but hey, we've got enough resources for everyone today, but we don't have a Star Trek society, because those resources are distributed unfairly....
Clueless about both. I don't know the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars, they both have the word Star so I don't know which is which
I voted neither but I should have voted Dr Who just because it's British and my British friends love it.
