How is poetry like love?
Because it will not come when bidden.

How is poetry like sunshine?
Because, without it,
we would not savour the dark.

How is poetry like trouble?
Each comes to vex us
when it will.

How is poetry like...

Apple-sauce?
Frankenstein's monster?
Weeds?
Indian Summer?
Beef Stroganoff?
&c. &c.

How is poetry like a forest?
It protects my deepest thoughts
within shadowy layers upon layers
that burrow into the darkness,
far below what is easily seen
or read.

How is poetry like me?
My every action to observer
Can seem to be having many intentions! :)

How is poetry like the afterlife?
Sometimes it glows with a touch of heaven.
Sometimes it burns like the fires of hell.
Sometimes it can leave you lost in limbo.
Sometimes it can be spinetinglingly haunting.
Sometimes it leaves you feeling there is nothing after this.
Sometimes it is reborn again and again with different faces and bodies.
Sometimes you think you have heard the voice of The Creator,
At other The Adversary of all Souls entices with honeyed words.
Sometimes you even feel you have reached a plane where death is life and life is death.
The Reaper dwells inside of poems,
Lurking about, unheard, unseen
But he has forever to wait, you do not
And he knows...

Dude! Or should that be Rev. Dude? This is SPLENDID! May I take a modicum of credit for having provoked it?
