Hello to all of you,
I just finished Joyce Carol Oates' Do With Me What You Will, a book that made me want to search excitedly for a forum in which to talk about it. So, here I am, I found you and I really need to talk.
For a long time I haven't had my hands on such a book that made even read slower so that I keep the pleasure of it for some more time, so that I have enough time to think about it. Well, may be I am exaggerating still under the influences of my own encounters during the reading... I don't know but I want to find out. So, any of you, who have read it, what do you think? What did it make you think about? How did it influence you?

i haven't read it, but i am fond of joyce carol oates. the last story i read, if memory serves me correct, deals with a young man who goes amok and slays his teacher and wife... i think.

anyway i was drawn to this thread by its title. it's irresistable.

i wonder if you would be so good, planet, to provide it's synopsis. i'd be much obliged.

But don´t you think that it will spoil the pleasure of reading?
I love to start a book without knowing anything about it so that I can discover it for myself in my own way, not influenced by other opinions.
In short, it's a story about an awakening.
The first 200 pages made me think it was about one thing, the next 150 made the impression that it would be about something else and finally both stories intertwined and created a new story... For me it was really impressive.
I wrote something under the influence of the book, if you are curious you can read it here: http://orange-planet.blogspot.com/
I have also put some quotations there.
Hope you'll like it.

So, what do you mean? It's just the beginning of a blog... I really didn't get your point...

i availed myself of the link that was provided and i must say the bookcover was impressive, but as they say one can't judge a book by its cover.

Yes, what they say is true.
I'd rather associate that fine naked lady with the naked soul. Nothing more.

speaking of fine narrative structures, there's one i'm intimately familiar with which resembles dna's double helix, the intertwining of two spirals to create one unified effect. changrae lee's gesture life. have you heard of it?
