MEMORIES #2

I guess there’s something to be said,
to be written down, and often related;
about a family cold and dead;

each line to be listened to with fear and dread,
with sorrow as each syllable is repeated.
I guess there’s something to be said,

yet, who would believe the words they read,
about abuse, dreams destroyed, hopes deleted?
About a family cold and dead

who had their chance, but chose instead
to drift apart, to live incompletely?
I guess there’s something to be said—

and say them I have, and will until I’m dead!
And in that respite when life is completed,
will I think about a family, cold and dead?

No one would ever believe. Why should they? It’s sad.
So I just go on trying to straighten out me.
I guess there’s something to be said
about a family cold and dead…

Sorry, Granny Sandy. Life hasn't dealt me the best of hands, but you play the cards you get, and I write poetry about good times and bad...

They say "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." I write poetry with a touch of lemon, a touch of honey, and a lot of me...

This is an excellent poem Pen, the repetition is really effective, and you've conveyed the feeling of sadness, disappointment and resignation touchingly well.

I liked the form of this piece; here repetition actually works as a refrain. The meaning is both sad and yet mordantly witty -- did I get that right?

The repetition is because the poem is a villainelle, which depends on repetition, and the sadness I tried to offset with some challenge of wit. I'm glad you liked it.

Very well-written Pen! I should better read the first part too.

You wrote so beautifully that I was torched by a pang of agony, for you transported to me a world I am much familiar with, in fact lived with, for my part of the world is really full of the people you have written in this beautiful poem.

Everyone who walks past them does not care about them, for seeing or coming across such people are everyday phenomena and they in fact become totally apatheitic to such cases, the poverty of people.

Yet I feel a little more different than the rest, for I am a poet like you and a poet is a little more sensitive to what he sees around and that is why he is a poet, or else he will not have been one.

anyway your poem is really moving.
