Child, what have I done?
My heart is dying,
I’ve nothing left to give.
I carried you inside me
Eager and excited to meet you,
to look at your beautiful face
and see happiness in your
beautiful eyes.
I carried you with me
waiting for the day
You could stand alone,
tall and straight and strong.
Now, I look into your eyes
And see hopelessness
and watch as you labor
to breath in the air of this world.
I know what will come
tomorrow or, if not tomorrow,
the next day.
My heart is dying.
I’ve no more tears to shed.
You will find peace.
But I will ask everyday
Child, what have I done?

what a sad poem mom, and a question we must all ask at times- that or the sister question what haven't I done. thanks for posting. I wish we could all work together to make a world where mothers no longer had to ask this question.

This is a very touching and sad poem. Relationships between mothers and children are very complex, sometimes communication becomes impossible, and matters stay unresolved...

It is a choice we all make when taking that step to conceive a new life, into a world which can be both wonderful and destructive. We all hope not to outlive our children, but this is not always the case. A very heartfelt poem Granny5, raw with emotion and words you normally wouldn't speak, except perhaps to yourself.

This is really good as in terribly. And sad...
