Poets must be silenced!
Their pens as broken as
Their hearts are chained up,
Their mouths muzzled
With the gag of the politically correct.

Moderate their tongue!
Make them stop
Writing the truth!
Isn’t it best to ignore
What is happening
Across the street?

Look at the poet!
Curled up in a corner
Of the cell where he belongs;
Hear the creaking sound of his voice
Screaming from the gravels
Which engrave freedom in the wall!
Does he think he can change the world with a word?!
Look at his insolent glance!
This revealing smile on his face!
And his deviant mind, opened
On intolerably unreachable lands!

I hope poets will never stop expressing themselves despite the difficulties they sometimes encounter!
Thanks for your comment.:)

Osip Mandelstam's ironical spin on being a poet under Stalin was that at least he lived in a country where he knew poetry was taken seriously - so seriously you could be killed for it. A very short and relatively mild piece on the glorious leader did for him. He died in a gulag.

The most sophisticated poesy haters know they don't have to even dignify poets by killing them or putting them in jail. Prime time TV scheduling's taken care of silencing them much more effectively. Not that I'd trade places with Mandelstam.

Indeed!
