The Pillow
Walking in the store tonight I happened upon
a Body Pillow.
How interesting I thought. A pillow in exchange for the body
I no longer hold next to me.
A pillow to replace you. Odd.
The Pillow.
But there were no arms nor legs to wrap around me.
Though I could wrap myself around it.
The Pillow.
There was no shoulder for my head. Though I could hold my head there.
The Pillow.
There was no face to trace the outline of nose, eyes, lips.
But I could place my face to it.
The Pillow.
No hand to hold. But I could hold it.
The Pillow.
No manhood to touch, feel, smell or taste. But I could touch, feel, smell The Pillow.
But no taste. No taste to The Pillow.
There was no heart or soul to divine from The Pillow. Just as there
has been no heart or soul from you.
Now, The Pillow

Sons of Mothers
Sons who cling when young
Pull away as they grow
Only to come closer
When Mother no longer is whole
Taking time to comfort
Being near, keeping distant enough
To allow pain and grief
To diminish on their own
Becoming almost Father-like
When Mom decides to venture out
Forging on with the life she's been given
Worrying like she's the teenager they once were
Watching as she prospers and
Finding bits of happiness here and there
Smiling because she is
Smiling once again

Night Whispers
Softly whispered sounds
in the night
Revealing thoughts of the moment
Not to be remembered except
in dreams that last too
short a time
and never to
be echoed in the morning

If I Had You
If I had you I'd sail the seas
with you for all eternity.
Weather the storms with all we have
and comfort each other like the salve
that heals the wounds on the skin
If only you will let me in.
If I had you we could to sit and read
for some days there'd be no other need.
Silently passing the time of day
until together we could hit the hay
then noiseley pass the night away.
If I had you we could feed each other
from our souls if I had my druther.
I would take you in my arms this day
and ask that you would always stay
and never leave to pass the time alone.
But if you do you'd always phone.
If I had you I'd feel complete
and never feel the urge to compete
for others' attention that we all seek.
I could shout out loud and n'er be meek
If I had you, it's of you I speak.

He.....
He became the sunshine
I sought each day and
the laughter I long for
during the boring moments
of another normal day.
But mostly he was the
shoulder I lay my head to
for security when no one else
got me.

Dandelion Dreams
Sometimes we wish
and dream
and hope
to make our lives compact
but not too much.
Like dandelion heads
light, airy, close together
but seperate too.
Instead, as we get our lives
compact and secure
a gust of wind shakes
our world
and we realize
the dreams and wishes
we built upon
wasn't rooted in the strength
needed to keep the pieces together.

Elusive Sleep
Listening to the quiet
of the night
is deafening in it's clamor
of nothingness.
The slowing of breath
as night wanes
and becomes the brightness
of another humdrum day.
Lacking senses to keep me stirred
in the way that allows sleep
to overcome anything
I had endured
to this instant.
Longing for the
urgency and need for
elusive sleep.

Loving Fields
Sunshine on pasture grass
always reminds me
of the love we made
during that early summer day
The air filled with tiny insects
and the smell of field daisies
overtook my senses
And you
tender, gentle made me
realize how
gratefully I was taken

Love Lost
Never found the time
or inclination
to want for things not in reach
Much like the love
I felt
for you
just today
Strange how that changes in
a minute
an hour
a day
Love lost that
never started
to begin with

Lost Feelings
The silence I hear
surrounding my heart
remains unheard
by yours.
No palpable sensation
to be felt
No warmth of the life
waiting within
to flow freely
toward you.
Your eyes blinded
to me
Your touch percipient
to no one
And now indiscernible
to me.

Just dreaming
Walking alone, as usual, to see where this day will take me. Where will I end up today? I pass many with stone faces and eyes straight ahead, blinders unseen but still in use. How will I have them avert their gaze this way? What shall I do to cut through that icey stare? The look that so reminds me of you when you turn sallow with your affections. Are there more in the world of this nature? This is what I can't fathom..why must we close our minds, hearts and lives to each other? Where is the book on each of us to be opened and shared? Can we not check it out so that we can read and become to know one another better? Have our "books" become so precious to only ourselves that nothing inside can be shared and learned? Did yours get thrown into that bonfire of rage set upon us by those wanting to control? No, I think not. I think you have closed that book. At least to me.

As fine as this is (and I think it's VERY FINE) shouldn't "when" be "if"?

How beautiful and strong! Couple of words should be reconsidered, though: "avert" should be divert; and "become" should just be come...

and smile
as you drive away

the memory of the moment
when you made me feel
like Cinderella
for the first time, ever

Ignorance of Aging
graceful lines shadowed by the moon
move to the rhythm of the breeze
carrying blurs of forgotten memories
making the haze of our youth more palatable
how once we cherised the sharp contrast of black and white
we now prefer the vagueness of those times
perfect in our mind, more clear than they were at occurence
safely sheltered in our soul, never to be disturbed by truth
discussed in the round with friends anew
dramatized, or made more humorous than true
it's our own memories; ours for the taking
ours for the sharing
remembered in the way we wish
not the way it was
our perfect youth
re-lived in our waning days

Creativity, born out of pain or hurt
Hibernates otherwise
Making me ponder the size of my right brain.

So they can happily coexist in the

Languishing in the sun with
A smattering of shade in which to rest

Once Virtuous
She was once a virtuous woman
Seeking shelter from the onslaught of male attention
Saving herself for just the right man.
She found him in an obscure chemist shop
Surrounded by the tools of his trade
Saved from insanity by the work he did,
Showered in light when she walked in
Shouldering a bag full of her past.
She placed an order only he could fill.
Still, he couldn't fathom why
She came into his shop this day,
Silently hoping she would not leave.
"Stay" he prayed in childlike whispers.
Shifting her eyes from his gaze,
She thought "splendid".
Smiling at him so he knew
She was open to the possibility.
So he advanced and she relented.
Shuffling his way across the floor,
Standing in front of her,
Speaking directly he asked,
"Shall we dance?"
Succumbing to his request
She moved to his open arms.
Suggestive movements followed
Sending him into a
State of unrelenting and wanton need.
She was exactly what he desired.
She relented yet again,
Saved no more by the virtues
She held on to for
So long.
