Sweden -Italy 1-1
YES!
Zlatans goal was amazing.
I really need to work on the sounds I make whenever there is a chance for goal. I go iii ii iiiii like a schoolgirl. For the next game I´m working on a more adult oooo, trying on more of a bass tone. Perhaps some beer helps?
I don't think many people care about footbal *coughs* soccer here...
(crisaor maybe?)
Oh well when I manage to care for a match I scream like a hooligan... But as I still haven't decided who I'm supporting, it's not being much fun... Last night I found myself screaming just at the possibility of a goal, whoever it might be about to score it... I'm not a mad fan of Italy because I can't stand anymore the way football is overrated in this country, so if they lose i find it rather funny... (problem is that if by any chance they keep winning, I do start supporting them, which is a bit sneaky... But anyway it won't happen, so I have nothing to worry about :D)
The only thing I'm sure about is that France has to lose in the most miserable way!!! :rage: I can't stand the way they've been winning everything lately, and after they beated England my was against France is total!
...and it is official now: I support LATVIA!!!

I wouldn't change that if I were you. Despite our complaints, I rather see a girl celebrate a goal in her own natural, feminine way than seeing her trying to pose as a guy (which is something that if accoplished, won't do any good either). So, keep your iii ii iiiii sounds ;)

Thanks for noticing, Koa. :) I do, actually. Sadly, The EuroCup so far has been a great embarassment and a waste of time. I've seen the most ugly games in years (excluding my own country team, which ranks number one in that department, thanks to the worst coach ever  ). Anyway, I'm vouching for either Sweden or Denmark, but they need to tie and Italy has to lose in order for both of them to pass their round. I can't believe Totti got only 3 games of suspension after what he did. Oh well....

Yes, it´s sad that soccer has become that ugly. In the Italy- Sweden game I saw some really bad things from both teams. It seems that the sport have lost alot of the old sportsmanship.
I´m looking forward to Denmark- Sweden though, and I hope that it will be good and non-violent. Me and a cuople of friends are going to go to a pub and watch the game.
And about my sounds, I guess I´ll just qoute Chandler from Friends "I wasn´t shrieking like a schoolgirl, I was shrieking like a marine. "
Yeah, it's being boring, and even if it makes me sound like an old granpa, it must have something to do with how football (*coughs and spits* soccer :D) is overrated...
I'm starting to support Czech Rep. too, as Latvia might not go ver far...
Crisaor, Italy has very small chances to pass... I think I've heard something weird about Sweden and Denmark having to do 2-2, and that's the only way Italy can pass even losing...or maybe winning...or maybe this way it won't pass...I don't know, the rules are being criticised here, cos it feels like Italy will pass if they win with a precise number of goals but only if red elephants fly and the temperature of the stadium reaches -45 and in the meantime in Japan a discreet amount of leaves starts falling... :D You got the idea of the kind of jokes being made here :D

Koa, I think all Italy has to do is win by 2 goals (Bulgary has lost all its games), regardless of what happens between the other two teams. That's because Italy has 2 points and Sweden and Denmark (who play against each other) have 4. If any of those teams wins and Italy wins, Italy will classify. If they tie, and Italy scores at least a two goal difference, it will also classify. At least, I think that's it...
I don't know crisaor, I'm only sure that I've heard the sentence 'if Sweden and Denmark do 2-2...' so many times in the last 24 hours!!! I've heard that that result is now given as more possible even in the bets...
And after all who cares? :D let's just sit on the sofa and see what happens :D
I know what's the problem now: if Denmark and Sweden do 2-2, Italy is out even if it wins...(or maybe not, if it wins by 2 goals...I dont remember anymore already!) So the whole country is scared about them doing 2-2 on purpose, and they get angry cos this is a very typical Italian way of thinking...and the Bulgarians too, might not play with much effort since they're definitely out... Phew, good job I dont listen to the soprt news too much, cos there can be hours and hours of this idle talks...
I know what's the problem now: if Denmark and Sweden do 2-2, Italy is out even if it wins...
No comment :D
Well actually, let's comment...Italy can't play worse than this. Well, noone can :D
Denmark and Sweden have been insulting Italian for days for accusing them of the 2-2 thing, and at the end they did that  Supporters had posters with 2-2 written on them...Now that's quite funny.
It was all so funny that I'm still laughing quite hysterically... The problem now is to have to hear all the journalists' crap... :argue: :brickwall
Now...GO Latvia and Czech Republic!!! (especially Czech, let's be rational :))

I saw the game, and I don´t think they cheated. But still ... ouch. Now the Italian team is going to be so angry.

rather annoying, me as non-fanatic to this sport.... My boyfriend occupies TV and I am left to books or sleeping... that is quite well, just that I would like to relax and watch TV also :rage: on the other hand, having ironing and vacuuming done by him for few months as an exchange , is acceptable ;) GOOD luck EURO 2004. I vote to have it twice a year

You guys are starting to get me interested. :p I remember being surprised at how much fun I had watching the World Cup in '98. But here it's all baseball, baseball, baseball -- and in a couple of months (horror of horrors) American football. I don't know if they even show the Euro Cup on TV here. No one pays any attention to soccer/football -- unless it's a major competition of the womens league, because a couple years ago one of the players took off her jersey when she scored the winning goal. But anyway, I'm gonna keep an eye out for it now. When does it end, btw?

I don't know if they cheated but it was quite hilarious... And yes, I think they're quite angry (I read some affirmation by Buffon -Italian goalkeeper- and he was questioning the Scandinavians loyalty... Not many of them remember that the first thing to do should be play a decent football themsleves...)
Emily, it ends on 4th July I think, and it's just about starting to get interesting.

They didn't. Living in a country that is sick for soccer (and being infected with that condition too), I can honestly tell you that I do know how "settled" games are, and this wasn't one. They attacked each other constantly, they had plenty of oportunities to score, and the tie came at the last minute. Arranged games normally don't have any goals in them, they just finish 0-0, with hardly any shots at all. Of course, for Italy it's much easier to blame those countries, whose supporters may have wanted to tie, but not the players. Anyway, if you ask me, Italy lost because it played horribly, with slim to none expectations.

No one pays any attention to soccer/footballIt's definitely worth of attention, best sport there is IMO. I remember France '98, that was the best world championship since Mexico '86. France was a well deserved champion, smacking Brazil 3-0 in the finals!
Soccer is actually a whole different issue than what is called football in the US, although we call it that way in Southamerica. I'm sure the Euro will get much interesting once they advance to the last stages.

betting is really hot in my office since Euro is on...kinda surprising that those "celebrity teams" had to go home early...sometimes i consider that underdogs have more fighting spirits to win...
Of course sub, sooner or later the big ones get lost in their own vanity...Or just stop being good. The small ones have more courage, and nothing to lose.

Well, the swedish team.
I guess it is a bit strange how a ball and some people in shorts can suddenly turn a nation into a more united group.
Now I´m out of soccer hysteria, and back to my not very nationalistic normal senses.

Indeed. Soccer is one of the few things remaining capable of producing "patriot effect". Just ignore that. Support your team for the sake of proximity and familiarity, and avoid doing any relationship between its performance and the nature of your country. :)

well i dont know cris, most sports even like that i suppose. I often saw people screaming their nations' names in international sports even (remembering that guy who kept screaming "Ukraina..." at this international gymnastic competition)
Sometimes i dont support my country's team and prefer to support a team which i think deserve to win
Football can make me feel un-patriotic sometimes. (as in hoping they lose)

You're probably right Sub. But I was referring more to a worldwide effect. For example, no one in South America would do that because of gymnastics. I think soccer is capable of producing a much broader, stronger effect across the globe.
Football can make me feel un-patriotic sometimes. (as in hoping they lose)
That happens to me too. Today we're playing against Perú, and I'm hoping for a disaster. Maybe it's just a way of getting even (as I feel frustrated by the team's performance), or a way of showing hope in learning from mistakes.
But that's exactly my point. This kind of attitude is not un-patriotic, that's bullsh*t. If patriotism, a concept which I strongly despise, is about wanting to beat another country at sports, then there's something really wrong here.
well... I don't know, in my case the hope to see them lose at football mostly comes from the aura of religion that football has... So I do something against most of my countrymen, and hope the team loses so they stop being overexcited about this damn sport (which, as a sport, I don't even dislike). If it's another sport I like, I can be incredibly patriotic.

Well it depends how well ur team performs in international events too i guess. I mean I will never be proud of my country's football team..since they never won any international events, so thats why i rarely support them when they're playing with other country's team. If i were an Italian or an English, I'd probably be a patriotic soccer fan...a hooligans indeed!!
and I wanted the Czechs to win :(
Now we're out too, Isagel :). Hey really, Koa? Cool :D
i thought you didnt care for football jay :D
I do not but when I see you cheering for 'us'... ;)

Yay I'm so happy a 'small' team won... a lesson to those spoilt ItalianEnglishFrenchSpanish superstars!

I bet these greeks will be spread all over european teams soon...and perhaps we'll be hearing some Greek's names some time in the future as new idols
Indeed.
Well a few of them were in European teams already, I don't remember which one played for Inter in the past season... And yes I'm hearing about teams trying to buy all those greeks now.

I believe most of the main greek team is already dispersed throughout Europe, albeit in different teams (quality wise I mean). I think Nikolaidis plays for the Atlético de Madrid if I'm not mistaken.
