The Americans.
How much they love their comedies,
to freshly laugh at old jokes as if
they had never been heard before.
I love the tragedies and I pray
you will not be angry if I watch you again.
In my mind's eye I repeat my favorite parts,
over and over and over,
never tiring of the constant reruns of our love.
Oh! Pardonne me s'il vous plait!
I should say, MY love.
My eyelids flutter and my head falls back
as I raise myself to feel your ghost embrace,
the kiss that swallows me,
and all that fills the parts of me.
And yes, I laugh with a freshness as if
I am the first to lose at love.

This is so beautiful. I hope mesoney reads it. Love really does hurt so darn bad sometimes but one usually does get over it, expecially when young.
For some of us, it's worth the pain to enjoy it again and again.

Ah-I never received a greater blow in love than losing my very first one (and never will). And yet this pain, as unique as the person we are losing, is common to us all. Thanks for the verse. I'll be floating along in bittersweet reverie for a while. (This is good. I enjoy reverie.)
