Words lost in the silence.
They catch in the throat and pierce the heart.
They are invisible, non-existent….
yet they can penetrate even the heaviest layers
of purposeful resolve.
The unspoken holds more meaning
than the thoughts freely shared.

But the words are lost….
strewn across the seas….
hidden in the darkness and the misery
of the desperate distance between us.

Missing words buried in silence...
words that can't be voiced
for fear of revealing
too much truth.

This is so nice CDN. Such a strong expression! I loved every stanza of it and read many times CDN. You're really a great poet. Keep up your great work. :thumbs_up

Yes, my friend, "too much truth"! And don't we constantly measure how much truth to tell? Too little and the other might leave thinking we aren't really interested. Too much and they might leave anyway, alarmed by the burden of our love!

You're struggling, as you so often do, with difficult questions!

How wonderful, but I hate thinking of the times I have eaten my words. It's hard to second guess.

As we say here "To eat crow" that is, "your own words", is a bitter dish.

CND you make shelfs of your poetry, shelfs like artist's fungi or coral, pleasing to the eye, while your words please the soul. Quite an acomplishment!

Is this not the perpetual dilemma of the lover, the dreamer, the parent? The circle you draw here is the pain of being human. And is it not broken by that single other soul, regardless of the name of their relation, who does not care in the least what predilections we have, what shape our love takes or what else we do but love them and demonstrate it to them by relinquishing our shield. As Mary Oliver says, the heart must be cut open and remain so for life and love to enter.

Thank you for your courageous Words, Cdn.

Perhaps it's not just our perpetual dilemma, but the greatest lesson of being human.....how to be vulnerable. We spend most of our lives learning to be strong, and that seems right. But it's so easy to lose that tenuous balance that allows us to let someone else in. Thanks, Fire.

your poem made me a bit dreary, cdn, i should admit. I keep wondering these days, what are these words? nothing but mere conveyers, deliberately collapsing now and then, whenever we want to make them hold more than they can bear. words, mere words...

The use of language is a mysterious thing indeed, Gothic. Sorry I made you dreary.... ;)

Love the poem!!:)
Also, have you noticed that people sometimes find it easier to share their hatred than to share their love?
It is puzzling to see that negative emotions can be easier to tell than positive ones.

Thanks, Sweets. Speaking only for myself, I find pleasant feelings much easier to communicate than negative ones. Negative emotions leave me feeling brittle, broken, torn apart inside.... and I have great difficulty releasing them.

you are so right ma'm. It is a misterious thing- this 'use of language'.I wander, how did ppl use to think before finding words? Without words our worlds become void, deserted. And even words-how far they succeed to fill the hollowness? May be it's only in the great men's minds, they found their proper home and therefore nested to fill them with their warm existence.

Only if you can teach me to write like you. It's all very good, ya know.
Have you published anything?

I couldn't teach anybody, Granny, not even myself. It just spills out that way sometimes. :) No, not published. But thanks for asking.
