View Full Version : Computer Problem
Well, I kind of doubt anyone here would know what to do, but here goes.
For the past few weeks, my laptop was filled with pop-ups evertime I opened up a browser. They totally slowed down everything. So two days ago I was finally tired of the pop-ups and decided to uninstall whatever it was I must've accidentally installed. Well, it turned out I incorrectly uninstalled something and now I can't log on to my damn laptop. I mean, once I log on, it automatically logs me back off. Help???
 --> Look, he's rejoicing over my misery. I should like to peel it off and eat him.

what os are you using? if you use xp you may want to try doing a system restore to the last date it worked properly.
What's os? Someone in another forum also asked the same thing but I have no idea what it is.

os=operating system....usually something windows'y, like milleneum, 95, 98 or xp. some people use others like linnux or whatever, which i know absolutely zero about. also there is a totally different platform for Mac users. anyhow, if xp is it, then go to control panel, system, and then system restore (im pretty sure that's where it is...although i dont have time to look right now). pick a date that is before your comp started screwing up. beware that whatever you have deleted since that date will be restored and anything new you have added will be removed. so if you have added anything new and important, save it to disk first if you can. or at least email it to yourself (if, say, a word doc.)
good luck. let me know how it goes!
Well, the thing is, I can't go to Contol Panel because I'm logged off right away. Unless you know what keys to press to get you there?

when you restart your computer and you are brought to that black page where all the info about your comp is, try pushing one of the "f" buttons...i dont remember which (maybe f5?) anyhow, one of them will bring you to a place that gives you the option to start in safe mode...maybe try that?
if you are using xp, are you the administrator for that computer? like when you log in, are you the main user? (password?) and do you have the authority to make all the changes and stuff? i dont know, but that might make a difference too.
i really wish i could help you more, but i sort of screw around with my computer and try things to see what works. i have yet to have a major crash, but i have messed up a few things (nothing that i couldnt figure out how to fix, mind you.)
lol, I know so little about computer. I think I'm the administrator. And I have to enter password to log on. As soon as the password is entered, my desktop picture shows up, then there's that sound when the computer shuts down and I'm back to the place where I first enter my password. Let me try it now.

your control panel should be immed. available when your desktop loads; goto "start"; from there to control panel. or you can go to "my computer" and if it's not visible with the "drive c" info, etc., then look at "other places" under "system tasks."
You see, amuse, that's exactly the problem. The desktop won't load! :(

ajoe, one thing u can do is, keep pressing F8 key when the systems starts and you'll get into a menu where u have an option to start in safe mode. in safe mode, u log on as administrator. now you can do system restore as told above.
another way is, boot with ur windows installation cd. when u boot it, u get options like repair existing windows when u go thru installing windows option.

that's the f something i couldnt remember, not f5. good call rocksea.
How's it going ajoe? getting it sorted?
Meh. I did get to the safe mode, but the same thing happened and even the desktop won't load.
O ya, it turns out I'm not actually the administrator. But I can't log on to the admin either.

When u press the F8 key, go thru the options. since u r having windows xp, there will be an option "Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked)". This is for restoring the system without logging in. Try if this works.
If it was you who installed the windows, admin must be you urself and u must've forgotten the pass? anyways forget it.

*i will never buy a computer from a certain store again. took three minutes (at least) to load my editing - needed a "/" for [/quote].
apparently they sold just enough ram with the computer to make you want to explode - it runs, but only just - so i had to purchase more yesterday (did not initially realize this was the problem). i even did a full system restore two nights ago. they do not inform you that you need to buy more at time of purchase. if you are interested in the name of the store pm me.
yes i have spyware protection, virus protection, and a firewall.

ya these days with softwares which ask for huge system resources, you need sufficient RAM to run properly. 256 is the minimum though i would recommend 512mb RAM. keep ur spyware, antivrus and all updated regularly. i would recommend using ad-aware and norton internet security(includes norton antivirus and norton personal firewall) with windows xp service pack 2. sp2 is good and efficient.

try downloading the google toolbar, and if you can't get to the desktop, and you have all the software, and you dont mind losing everything, reformat and reinstall everything.
