Did anyone see the lunar eclipse this morning? I checked it at 4:15 and later at 5:30 when there was too much cloud cover. Those clouds certainly provided a beautiful sunrise this morning.
This is a poem I wrote in 2000. I hope to come back later with another try.
Do YOU have an eclipse poem?
Eclipse
I like a little day time
Mixed into my night time,
The explosion of warmth and light
That comes when the sun's warmth
And the moon's and the star's sparkling light
Embrace each other.
They seem to cling to each other
Suspended in time,
But very slowly they pull apart
And float off into space.
Yes, sweet troubadour, all my life's a circle
And I do know why
Time keeps rolling by.

To Ampoule: A beautiful poem, elegant and simple, a quality that Frost and Dickenson and even Plath had. This kind of poem is worlds away from the complexities of other poets. How about another? quasimodo1

My dear A., you have written poems of mystery, poems of longing, poems of (may I say) wicked love, all moving and many still puzzle me (you know which one, with the $#%!!$ samples), but this is by far the best you have ever done! The intention here is right on and, true to form, you leave us with that last sentence with a slight mysteriousness to it. Bravo!
I have no eclipse poem and if I did it would not compare and would itself be eclipsed by this one.

Graceful and seemingly spontaneous as ever! Thanks! And
Do YOU have an eclipse poem?
I DID and if I say so myself, a damned fine one, but then another one passed in front of it - and it was gone!

I really like this section....
They seem to cling to each other
Suspended in time,
But very slowly they pull apart
And float off into space.
It gave me a vision of them prodding and poking at each other's skin, then plucking it off and drifting away. Thanks, Amp.

Darkness and Light, Moon and Sun, lovely poem. No eclipse poem, Amp, but there is a sestina on Darkness and Light in what little blog I have. Not much of a blogger...

The first six lines of this, Ampoule, are brilliant and
could stand alone.
Missed the eclipse! (I was up but forgot to look outside)
'Twas supposed to be visible, too, as the sky was cloudless, a rarity for the great Northeast USA.

 Stop it you guys! Thank you so much but I'm really shocked. I had so many questions about this one. I won't dare bring them up because you might change your minds. ;) ;)

Oh I saw the lunar eclipse this morning. It was cool, and an astronomer friend sent me some pictures of it today. Not sure if I can post it.
Nice poem Amp.

Those opening lines are fantastic ampoule, it made me think of mixing a bit of brandy into your hot chocolate at night, warming and a bit special. It is a lovely poem, with a light touch, and an innocent quality which always seems to be present in whatever you write. I love the idea of the moon and the sun embracing.
I don't have an eclipse poem I'm afraid, but yours did remind me of when we went to watch the solar eclipse in Cornwall in 1999. What a wonderful experience that was (although the 4 hours sat in a traffic jam afterwards trying to get out of Cornwall wasn't much fun!).
