school is back in and so there isn't as much time inthe day as I need.
Bug eyed awake
with two pots of coffee
sloshing in my stomach
along with some Tums
and a case of bad nerves.
Bug eyed awake
so just you stay back
or the rest of me may transform
into a little critter crawling in the night
looking for a bite… of you!
Bug eyed awake,
longing for a long hard sleep
but left with little choice.
I push that stone up the mountain
only to have it fall back down upon me.

Gosh, I've been in this place, Mother. Great job of bringing those frustrations into poetry, but I wish you didn't have to know them QUITE so well.
(BTW, second last line.... should it be "I push" ??)

The difference between your wake-up, MH, and Cdn's, Softly, makes me smile this morning. I've been up since 2 a.m. so I'm ready to go back to bed! Alas, I can't either. Are you home schooling your children MH?
Well, I don't want any bed bugs to bite so I will leave you to your morning chores. Sweet of me huh? ;)

WOMAN! I'd be right there alongside you if I could be helping you roll that stone up the mountain or standing back a bit to catch it as it starts to slide!

And I always thought that your eyes were just naturally large.
College, home school for the boys, homework for the girls, chickens, garden, dog, cat, church, me, Poppy, sister, brother, nephew, laundry,
cooking, canning, reading and writing.....what has you so stressed that you don't get enough sleep???
If you're not busy, give me a call......(just kidding)
It is a very good poem and very accurate. I think I've felt that bite before!

Ah, school back in for me means nobody home most of the day and loneliness and depression fight with each other for handholds to see which one will take me down first. Anyone who thinks disability is a free ride can have mine, and welcome to it!
Seriously though, your Bug-Eyed awake reminds me of this image on my nature screen saver: http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l108/AbsalomKane/Smilies/Images%20II/prayingmantis2.jpg Hee-hee!

Pen, are you my peeping tom? Sometimes I scare myself in the morning, but that helps me wake up!

This poem succeeds because the "bug" analogy follows all the way through. Opening each stanza with the same phrase "bug-eyed awake" gives it unity, texture, rhythm.
Good effort!

Thanks Auntie, It was not meant to be a serious attempt at a poem though. I won't say the "D" word, but that was all it was.
