Prince said something and it made me remember. I haven’t posted in a while so I thought I’d throw this one out there. (sorry dad)

I hid from those who would find me
in the fog of your presence.
I laughed gaily, like I had no fear.
You were a thin facade
that only I believed.

Older now, wiser-
I know I can’t feel your smile again.
But, in the heavy rain that life so often brings
I think of you and when you were my friend
and miss you, Mary Jane.

Well, that Mary made me think of this Mary

You swanker up with your shoulders back
Proud and indestructible-
What are you made of to leave behind
such utter destruction?

Carry on, toward that desolate place.
Look for what is next.
No matter whom you devour
your guts will ache with hunger.

Tramp, what will it take to fill you up?

This is so beautiful and simple. At first I didn't understand the apology, but then I can be slow. I love these tributes to Mary Jane that are void of cliches from that time.

Reminds me of Dylan's:

Now when all of the flower ladies want back what they have lent you
And the smell of their roses does not remain
And all of your children start to resent you
Won't you come see me, Queen Jane?
Won't you come see me, Queen Jane?

Some folk get it from what grows up from the ground
and some from what descends from the sky;
but the best and happiest among us, I think,
just get it from everything around.

(Case you're wondering, by "the best and happiest" I mean you and your whole gang!)

Did you write this? If you didn't, do you know who did? Cause I really like it.

Thanks everyone. Annabel, I did write it and Pensive, I hope it's not a bad example. I appreciate all of the comments and lyric! I was beginning to think I wouldn’t come up with anything else to post.

One should always enjoy a tribute to Puff the Magic Dragon lol.

I was confused by the line:
I laughed gaily, like I had no fear.
Because I am not certain that there should be fear. It seems as if it astonishes you that you weren't afraid-- though the paranoid high can make Mary quite fearful.

My kids think old dad is nuts for sometimes singing Puff The Magic Dragon, and even the wife rolls her eyes...

I know this is a dumb question, but Iwas just a kid you know-

I thought that song was about little jacky paper and his friend the dragon

so am I wrong? Is it about good old mary jane?

The fear was not a result of mj, rather the mj was a result of the fear.
