Penguin
One among millions, that's where I stand,
Waiting and hoping for a tuxedoed man.
Your waddle, how sexy, I watch from the bed,
Hoping you'll choose this loving redhead.
I stand at attention, my heart skips a beat,
I watch you approach, drop five stones at my feet.
I look at them lovingly and then up at you,
The smile in your eyes, can this be true?
You climb up upon me and quiver and quake,
I throw back my head, take all I can take.
I am so happy but something is wrong,
You pick up your stones and take them along.
I preen at my feathers and take it in stride,
The memory so good with me will abide.

Nice poem, but I didn't like the ending. You know some penguins don't have the sense they were hatched with to leave such a loving redhead.

The light verse was entertaining, and it's so rare to find appropriate rhyme in poetry these days. Quick question:
why are penguins suddenly so "hot" in today's pop culture?
One more penguin movie and I'll move to Antarctica, which, by the bye, is where they live, not at the NORTH pole. So you wonder why they are appearing on Christmas cards. Anyway, I'm old enough that every time someone makes a penguin reference, I can't avoid thinking of Burgess Meredith in the old "Batman" TV show.

Thanks.
I'm not sure why penguins are so popular unless it's due to that popular movie, March of the Penguins, followed by the Disney movies.
You are certainly right about penguins being from Antarctica. I think sometimes the reason they put them on Christmas cards is because penguins are associated with cold, snow and ice, which is also associated, somewhat erroneously, with Christmas.
I had been reading about penguins, the five stones etc., which gave me the inspiration for my poem.
