I'm experimenting with styles at the moment, which is why there's a bit of an eclectic mix of poems coming from me. This was fun to write. I hope it makes you smile :)

The Manager’s Lament

Inefficiency is spreading
like a virus, sickening
the workforce.
It starts with an
incessant humming,
or a drumming of fingertips
upon the desk. Staff are
staring out of windows,
and I swear I’ve
seen a creeping
twist in the corner of
some mouths that looks
suspiciously like
a smile.

The symptoms are spreading
quickly, laughter follows
bursting out uncontrollably -
it’s quite frightening really,
and the flirting
is almost too much
to bear (though I’m relieved
to say it never is
directed towards me!).

At first I let it go, it seemed
as harmless as a cold and
I was sure that it would pass
in time.
But now production’s
down by five percent,
and questions will be
asked by the Chief Exec.,
I’m really not quite sure what
I can do.

I’ve tried vaccination,
isolation, medication,
meditation, motivation,
innovation, communication,
desperation! I may invoke some
legislation but that may take
some time.

For now I guess I’ll just resort
to wine!

Good one! Very familiar.

You need to include Pylons in your poetry :D

A bit obvious, 5th, but it's nicely done and I certainly got a laugh out of it. ;)

Ah! Red, red wine, but I can't help but sense there is a hidden other spelling in there. This was delightful in its subject matter and poetics.

Cute, I'll take the wine.

You may jest, but even before you mentioned pylons I was planning to write a poem about them. They are the unappreciated backbone of our nation...or something along those lines ;)

Yes, it's not exactly subtle, but it was fun to do.

Thank you firefangled, and Virgil :)

This is my favourite part! It rhymes very well, too. :D
