The Hours by Michael Cunningham

The first Cunningham book I have read. It is based on Woolf's Mrs Dalloway. Neither being a fan of Mrs D nor of Woolf, I was a little reluctant initially but... I am not sure how to put this without shocking some of you but I actually liked it! Yes, I liked a book based on Mrs D!

Cunningham's book follows one day in the lives of three different women (Clarissa in 1990s, Laura in 1949 and Woolf herself in 1923 as she sets off to write Mrs D), who are connected through Mrs D. His story switches from one woman to the next as they progress through their day and we find out how the book Mrs D has affected them.

It is a wonderful idea for a book and Cunningham seems at ease with his writing technique. The transitions are wonderfully smooth and flowing. It surely makes you want to read more of his books.

10/10 KitKats!

I’ve seen this book in my local library and was tempted to borrow it. The only thing is I’m really not a fan of Virginia Woolf and it’s sort of put me off.

Might pick it up next time, though since you recommend it.

I also enjoyed the book immensely! All three head characters are very well written. Best book I read in a while!

I just bought that book today. I watched the movie on Friday and I really liked it. I'll be reading it as soon as I can.
