“How do you feel Jonathan?” His doctor asked.
“I dunno… Empty I guess.”
“Why do you feel empty?”
“Because I have nothing to fill in the gaps.”
“What gaps? You are a full and lively individual.”
Jonathan peered upon his doctor for a second, “Oh yes, lively… Sitting in my room all day thinking, being bored, and remembering the past.”
“You put yourself in this position you know? You could have done something else.”
“… Like?”
“I guess you could have saved her right? That’s what you wished you did right?”
Jonathan twitched; his fist gripped his white cotton pants tightly. His eyes peered upon his doctor with the rage of a pain that he masked with cold thought. “Can’t save everyone, can you doc?” His voice had a hint of maliciousness to touch.
The doctor flinched, he too grew red, but as an embarrassment. Many didn’t speak of the ‘Patient gone wrong’ incident.
“Tell me… Why did you push your friend away yesterday? What good did that do?”
“It saved his life.”
“Are you so sure of that Jonathan? What if he went home and killed himself because you gave up on him?”
“I didn’t give up on him, I saved him. Besides, Daniel isn’t one to go emo kid and end his life like…”
“… Like who?”
“None of your business *******.”
“Whoa there Jonathan, we don’t want hostilities now. We’re just trying to help you, okay?”
“Why don’t you go help some other patient? I’m holding up fine, better than most of your patients. Last I checked I didn’t hang myself with my bed sheets.” Jonathan grinned in a coy sort of way; he knew when to get under the doctor’s skin.
