Hi! I need some advice! As a teacher, I have to choose a play (and work it out) to be feature on the next Xmas. In the previous years i've chosen  Romeo and Juliet, Oedipus King and Faust (by Goethe) - of course the were all abridged and some parts were completely modified - and (fortunately:D ) I succeed since everyone (students, teachers and parents) loved the play... but this year i'm having NO IDEIA OF WHICH PLAY TO CHOOSE!! :( Could you please help me? Thanks!

P.s.: i don't have a theater degree, so i've based all my decisions on my reading knowledge.
p.s.2: the play is to be performed by 17/18 years old students.
p.s..3: i didn't know where to post this thread, but i'm sure the Mods will be kind enough not to kill it. :)

Try the Caucasian Chalk Circle By Bertolt Brecht. :thumbs_up :thumbs_up
It is a wonderful play that i studied in college at aged 17.
I'm Sure the students would have fun with it as it is a part of the berlin ensamble. All set changes are done during "white outs" instead of black outs, so everyone can see whats going on. It reminds people that they are watching a play and people acting and not to take it seriously.
We dont have it here on the site as its publication is post 1923 and therefore copyrighted, but you should beable to get it in you local library.:D

It is also a great play! We had alot of fun in college with it. I also think its a great way to introduce different techniques of acting etc to students. Goodluck:thumbs_up I hope you choose this play.

P. Calderón de la Barca - Life is a dream
Perhaps not so well-known, this is an excellent work by 17th century Spanish dramatist. When we studied it at school, I adored it to a point of memorising excerpts in the original language (I speak Italian, and was never taught Spanish :D).
Even in translations the language is beautiful, the themes universal, and from what I have seen in lycees I attended, teenagers seem to adore this play. Consider it ;)

Hum, despite being portuguese, i don't know very well this spanish dramatist, but i've heard that he is one of the greatest playwriters of all times. Thanks! I'll take it into consideration!
Baci per l'Italia!

Hmm...Faust at Christmas could be interesting...

Though, maybe consider some Chekhov? Perhaps Uncle Vanya would do...It's not exactly Christmas-y but it's still an excellent play. I don't think the set would be too difficult to create. :)
The Seagull also might be a good choice. Though, it ends with a suicide, so maybe not good for the season.

Just my two cents. :D Best of luck with it all!

I've only read some Chekhov short stories since I had searched for that play (Uncle Vanya) but I couldn't find it!! :( But Chekhov is an excellent choice! Thanks for the advice!!! I'll look for the Uncle Vanya e-book!
