The children walk
Without solemn talk
With subdued voices
Making unfathomable choices.
Several have seen the dead.
Like the boy said,
Sits on the wall observing
The chaos below – unnerving.
One day a friend,
Shot beyond mend
Next day a parent
Day thus considered a variant.
A man walks up to Ahmed,
“Put a gun to your brothers head”
Ahmed knows not what to do,
So he turns round to shoot.
An incident of corruption
Bringing nothing but destruction.
Writing an unwritten law,
“for” these children of war.
