Do you like Eco? Why? Why not? I'm most curious to learn.

I have one read Name of the Rose and I did like it. However, I did have problems staying awake while reading it.

I've never read anything by him but I've heard lots of different comments about The Name Of The Rose (i don't even know what else he wrote!!! I know he studies communications or sort of and wrote articles and essays about it, but are there other novels by him? lol this ignorance of mine is quite funny): people either love it or hate it... I've been tols it's sloooow and there's lots of Latin in it, so a lot of people find it boring, but other people love it, despite finding it hard.

He's written a lot of books, both fictional and non fictional. His second novel is Foucault's Pendulum, his third one is The Island of the Day Before, and Baudolino is his last one. All of them have medieval components in their stories.
Being a semiologist, he's also written several non fictional books, which deal with a broad variety of subjects. Most of them are recommendable.

Oh yeah, I remember now I've heard of the Foucault's pendulum! And yes I had a clue about his non-fictional stuff. (I feel quite embarassed, as he's a countryman of mine ). Maybe I should force myself to try at least The Name of The Rose, but the medieval idea doesn't attract me at all...

Go ahead, it's nothing to be afraid of. It does have a lot of background behind it, but the main story is very intriguing. If you can't stand the bits of history, you can always skip them and go with the main plot, although this takes some of the fun away...

Ah I can't skip. Really can't...I read every single word of War&Peace, even if I can't tell where my brain was during a big part of the historic digressions... Well if I survived that, maybe Eco won't kill me after all... I guess in 3-4 years -when I've read all the books I have piled to read ;)- I'll try...

Yes. It was directed by Jean Jaques Annaund. Great adaptation, also very recommendable.

One of Eco's non-fiction books which i like is the "Five Pieces of Moral" though i have to "suffer" a little bit in reading it since it's the translation edition (i hate translation books) in this book he wrote about war and humanity..as for Foucault's pendulum, i havent read it yet.

If you like Eco's books you should read Carnival of Saints by George Herman, according to my mother.
