I got 7/10. And I'd prided myself in being a good speller. In my defense, the three words I got wrong I had never heard of them before.

9/10. I got stuck between two choices on the insuciant/insouscient/insouceint/insouciant one.
The good thing about tests, though: I'll never forget how to spell that word again. :)

10/10 :D
Too easy... most words were of Latin origin (as it often happens with words of 'higher' style in English), I only had to add an English sounding ending to Italian words...the only real problem was where to put y and i in things like pshychiatry, cos we don't have y in Italian and I'm often in doubt about where to put it. The only one I had never ever heard was insouciant (some of the others, like eczema, I didn't know they existed in English, but I knew them in my language :D), but I guessed correctly relating it to French: souci = worry, no worries --> insouciant.

I really like how it's possible to guess a lot by knowing several languages :D (even if it doesnt always work, but even getting it wrong is fun. I only really hate it when I'm totally lost and none of my knowledge can help).

I forget the origin of the word "bee," but a "spelling bee" is just a spelling competition. Women used to hold "quilting bees" where they would meet at each others' houses and help each other make quilts together, so the work would go faster and they could talk while they worked.

Btw, Koa, you gave away some of the answers. ;) But since you did -- I had only ever heard the word "insouciant" spoken, so I wasn't sure about the O. I guessed wrong. :( Which was a moment of imbecility, since all the other choices had O in them.

well I thought that most people wouldnt read the whole thread before trying the test...(I never do cos I get bored of reading without knowing what people are talking about) and well you know I talk to much... And I had to justify my high result somehow... :D

9/10. Koa, I knew you'd get a 100% :D I got insouciant wrong. :( Which is stupid, because I've heard of it/used it before. *rolling eyes emoticon*

"insouciant"

\In`sou`ciant"\, a. [F.] Careless; heedless; indifferent; unconcerned. --J. S. Mill.

Ex: the  is insouciant.
(:p either that or he's been lobotomized and hooked up to a series of electrodes.)
