wrote this a few months ago. never posted it here. not sure what i think of it...it's about my adopted godmother. she's one of those people who makes her family yours, make the world feel cozy.

Today she cried rubies and
Tears her clothes were old
They were torn her
Down jacket
With the fleece lining
Was molting
And she had nothing to give

Someone needed directions today.
Found her way to grandma,
Hadnt seen her in twenty years.
Grandma can't make cinnamon rolls,
So I was her hands and the spicy creases in my palms were the road to her house.
The road to Grandma Peggys heart is long
Full of twists and turns and she waves from each corner and sometimes I run ahead of her but we
Never get lost.

The girl with the runny nose says
Grace as she waits for the city
Bus to take her back to the Divine Tracy Hotel where
Women stay
A week
Sometimes more
Lifetimes even if they're trying
To find God. Men and women
Are forbidden on the
Same floor janitors are
Announced on the
Intercom if they have to do repairs on the
Women's floor (which always smells so
Clean and has beautiful single bedrooms that look
Like
The 19th century in England if you're
Lucky enough to have
A recollection of it
You know what I mean).

Her eyes were red she doesn't care
If she's crying or bursting blood vessels anymore, but when she gave me
Directions to
My godmother,
It seemed she could've used a bite to eat
And I invited her to come along.

It was a long time since
Anyone had loved her.

It was a long time since
Anyone had loved her.

Grandma Peggy's oldest
Son had tried but couldnt
Pay child support and her
Mama never had a phone.

Today I heard her cry and we all hugged each other with floured prints on our backs and
Grandma Peggy cried.

Today my sister cried rubies and blood vessels
And tears.
Today she disappeared.
