So, I live in New Jersey, and there was this enormous thunder storm last night.

Then, today, I learned that - I guess from that same storm - there was a tornado in Brooklyn and it touched down in Staten Island. It also wreaked havoc on the New York City transportation system (suddenly, I'm feeling happy about my recent move further away from New York). So - I hope everyone is okay. And I hope your roofs are all intact!

For those of you unfamiliar with US weather patterns - it is totally bizarre to have a tornado around here! They mostly happen in the midwest.

OH DEAR.

I have cousins that live on Staten Island!! I hope they're alright! Shoot!

But that is strange. I don't think I've ever heard of tornadoes in the East...

Hope you're okay, too! Thunderstorms!

Ah that's such a pity. And on the other hand, we are having a lot of trouble with floods.

I suppose they could happen anywhere. I mean, Britain has been getting them lately.
I heard about the floods Pensive. Hope you and your family are safe from the devastation. I heard India is badly hit also. Could that be why Maddie has not been on lately?
Many parts of the world are experiencing freak weather. Britain, Ireland and other parts of Europe have had constant rain, and storm, Britain being the worst hit out of us all with its mass flooding and now foot and mouth out break.
India and Pakistan flooded.
Indonesia getting hit by earthquakes.
Poland has temps of over 40 degrees celceus. Madness!

There are sections of Brooklyn where the sidewalk has been ripped up. I finally have a response when my NY friends ask why I moved to NJ. Unfortunately, I work in Brooklyn and had to walk across the bridge to get to work.:(

I can viddy a book or sinny being developed about it all as I type.

I was scheduled for 9:00. When I realized I was going to walk it, I ate to get som energy and read a bit. I got to work at 11:21, but since it was a citywide problem I was paid from 9:00.:D

The tornado hit the Bay Ridge part of Brooklyn, which is the next neighborhood over from where I grew up in, Bensonhurst. Bay Ridge has great little bars and once we were old enough we would go to the Bay Ridge bars every weekend. Oh so many memories there. I love Brooklyn, I miss it so. Here's a google picture of Bay Ridge overlooking the Verrazano Bridge.

My co-worker lives in Bensonhurst, she's the one who told me about the condition Bay Ridge is in.

No reason to visit?

Not sure what you mean by no reason to visit. I go through there once a month or so. I live in Staten Island now.

I feel for all you guys in Brooklyn. I was in Oklahoma when the big one hit May 3rd, 1999. Hope everyone is okay...

Thanks Mortis. No one got killed so that's a big relief. Just some trees fall on a lot of cars. I tink it made the news more for the novelty of a tornado in Brooklyn, rather than the devastation.

O! You spoke with such nostalgia; I thought you were out of the five points.;)

Are you a driver or ferryman?

I drive over the Verrazano if that's what you mean. :)

I meant when you travel in general. I'm a slave to the public transit system, so I avoid Staten Island, because of the Ferry.

I'm a bit older than you Nick, so I drive mostly now. One has to if you live in Staten Island. I used be a slave, as you say, to public tansportation too. I went to City College in Harlem by subway and Brooklyn College by bus when Iwas young and going to school.
