Do it! she said. Do it now!

But why? She's only the past.
She knows I love YOU my little darling.
Isn't that punishment enough?

No
It
Isn't!
Now, do it! Or else!

So with his eyes locked into her cobra stare
He reaches into the barrel and fills a scoop
with white punishment and lets it sift down
into her open wounds.

Not a sound.

But at least my little darling is happy now.

She smiles.

A fine poem (of course) but it makes me yearn to pass a love forbidding pain to anyone one cares for! When one of my sons was 16 and we were evaluating our relationship, the one complaint he had was: Well, Dad, sometimes your love is a burden on me

It was as close as I hope to get to having a nuclear suppository shoved up my wrong end and detonated! But I understood him at once, intuitively, because he lived with the knowledge that if he so much a scraped a kneecap, it would destroy me. And no one should be required to live so carefully. He had the absolute right to risk scraping his kneecap.

Amp, you continue to amaze me with the utter depth of meaning you can get out of so few words... I begin to believe I stand in your shadow, for it is in the depth of words that my poetry draws meaning, and you can do it with less. A bow, my lady.

I bow as well. Well said, Pen. My dear A., you always amaze me with what you leave out. I hope you know how rare that technique is. This could so fail miserably under a less skilled or inspired hand.

Now I need to go back and capture the times that you have done this to me, to calculate the depth of what you are doing with these little gems. First it was that damn guy behind the counter with his "samples," now this.

Bow wow!

Oh, you guys, you are making me giddy.

I have no skill, only inspiration.

Thank you.
