hiya, I'm doing research for my graduation thesis (equivalent to M.A. thesis) in English Linguistics these days. It's about "light verb constructions" (e.g. have a look, have a walk etc vs just the plain verbs look (at), walk etc.

at the moment I'm picking apart an article 30% of which sound plausible, another 30% of which are acceptable with a stretch of the imagination and 60% of which are plain rubbish :D

could some native speakers please paraphrase for me what for our meals means in the sentence below?
hehe, I think I've got a very rough idea what it means ;), but I'd like native speakers' judgements :)

We had a considerable walk to a small restaurant in the town for our meals.

hehe, of course I will not cite this little experiment in my thesis, but replicate it off-line if it turns out to be relevant.
thanks a lot :)

edit: please give your answer in size 1 font and a colour that makes it difficult to read, so the second person to answer doesn't get influenced by what the first said and so on

to eat/purchase/have our meals
to be fed
where we bought food

Is that what you mean?

thanks mother H. yep, that's what I meant, especially your first paraphrase to eat/purchase/have our meals

I'll explain about it later; let's see what the others think first

I think it means:
in order to get our meals

I am in complete agreement with Weisinheimer.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. It means that they were going there to eat their meals or to at least purchase their meals.
