A Drop of Heaven

A drop of heaven,
it seems to me,
would sparkle in its depths
as of a diamond
encased in a shimmering pocket
of wonderment.

Where would one keep
a drop of heaven,
should one happen to accidentally
come across one?

Tuck it in your wallet
alongside the round "tuit" that
someone gave you at a Christmas party
in 1989?
In the drawer of your bedside table,
smooshed between the pages
of the novel you're reading?
Carefully protected
in a turquoise silk pouch,
next to your Bible?

Or would you give it away
to the homeless man
that you've been trying to avoid
on the corner of 10th and Broadway?

Beautiful!
I find it amazing that you can come up with such wonderful pieces constantly, how do you do this?! :D

Thank you, Symphony! It's quite easy actually. Write lots. Hide most of it away in your sock drawer. Choose a few of your favourites from the rest to share. (There's LOTS hidden in my sock drawer....:D )

Thanks very much, Jer. Always appreciate your comments.

I'm sitting here wondering what I would do with a drop of heaven.
I love your poem Cdn and like Prince, the ending was a beautiful surprise.

I also got a chuckle out of your sock drawer. Mine sit in a messy stack on a shelf beside me, but at least they are alphabetized.

How about sharing some of the non-favorites too? :D
(People always want more yeah!)

Mother Hubbard, thanks so much for your kind praise. Much appreciated.

Ampoule??? Soooo......I'm waaaaaiting..... What WOULD you do with a drop of heaven?? Huh? Huh? Inquiring minds wanna know..... (P.S. If it's 'alphabetized', it cannot be described as 'messy'. Dem's da rules.)

Symphony....I think I've still got a few dozen 'favorites' to show before I have to think about whether I'm brave enough to tackle the 'unfaves'. In other words, you ain't gettin' ridda me anytime soon. :D

Ah, Jerry beat me to it again! That last stanza, wow! That's one is over the fence! Call that one a home run!

I really liked this poem. The lines..

'Where would one keep
a drop of heaven,
should one happen to accidentally
come across one?'

spoke directly to me.. I like how it ended too. I equate 'heaven' with 'happiness' and couldn't help thinking of the fable of the stricken king and the shirtless beggar..

"With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy." -Max Ehrmann
