You've probably thought of packing the breakables in blankets and winter clothing instead of newspaper, eh? Saves trees and cuts down on the number of boxes.

Basically play loud music and try to have fun.

I always invite friends. I give them dinner and beer. They help me pack. If you are about five people the whole thing is done in no time. Loud music helps. Sometimes itīs almost like a party. The things I do not want or canīt fit in the new place get piled up in the "take it if you want it pile" - thereīs usually something somebody likes in there.
wow good idea isagel! i'm so worried about when I'll have to pack for my 6 months abroad...I'll need all my clothes and all my cds and some books and...and...and...oh my god, I hate packing. there's only one thing as bad as packing...that is: unpacking!

one of the problems i am having with this move is that i my 'stuff' is leaving ten days before i am, and after that i am going to be staying in my boyfriends condo when i get to my new city (he'll be away on an army training course) and all my stuff will be in storage for a month or more. so i kind of have to sort out the things that i will need for the week we are in the empty apartment (i'll be working and my boy will still be in school) and then what i need for the first month in calgary. also my budget is pretty much nil, so i can barely afford to rent the truck to move the stuff, let alone buy beer....
on the up side, i am really looking forward to the unpacking part. i love unpacking almost as much as i love re-arranging furniture. i worry about the eventual cohabitation of me and my bf...his place was arranged by an interior designer, so he doest much want to move it all around...oh boy! i need to exorcise the gypsy blood from my veins. ;)

LOL Unpacking!! Nooo!! :p When we went to Scotland we left most of the furniture and the TV and books boarded up in the closets of this house, since we were renting it out. When we got there, our house was bare. (Isn't that a nursery rhyme or something?) Luckily there were window seats. We bought TV dinners and saved the containers to use for our dishes, went out and bought douvets and pillows to sleep on, bought one fiesta-ware bowl for each of us at the Tesco. I loved it. My kind of adventure! :D But...
My dad was staying on for a couple more months, to wrap up loose ends, sell the car and stuff. When the rest of us got back to our house here our best friend was already there waiting for us, and she had taken up a collection around town for things people could lend us till our stuff got back! There were towels and blankets and sheets and chairs and lamps and dishes (and snack food. woohoo.) -- it was awesome! :bawling: But...when the movers came with our stuff, my mother -- who hates "knickknacks" and "clutter;" bigtime minimalist -- wouldn't allow us to unpack it! We lived without most of our stuff even after it got back, until my dad came home. Thankfully, he's like me: loves antiques and artifacts and pictures and shelves full of old books everywhere. So he came home and said, "what's this??" and proceeded to unpack all the boxes.
