I have a copy of 1984 by George Orwell that is a different version than what is normally available. In it, in the Chestnut Tree cafe at the end of the novel, Winston does not write out 2+2= 5. Instead he leaves the answer blank. I wonder if, in the older version, this suggests that Winston, subconsciously, still knows the truth, that 2+2=4. Is this rewriting history? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
