Hi
I am new to these forums. Here's a poem I wrote when my daughter was born. It is very close to my heart. Please let me know what you think..
thanks
Padma
Birth of a Mother
I saw my baby, so sweet, so soft
bundled in white hospital robe they brought
I cooed and I kissed and shed a tear
All the emotion of holding her near
After the smiles and visitors and fare
I turned to my side and slept with no care
Was that a pull or a tug or a tear?
It was a nurse holding my pink teddy-bear
You wake me at 2 in the morning? I haven't slept a wink
All my energy seeped to the bottom of a sink
She said, 'Your baby is hungry and needs to be fed
Do you want to feed her, then keep her in bed?'
I rub my eyes and begin to see a new beginning
I am a mother and will nurture my darling
I take her from the nurse, for she is my own
I resolved for her care I shall turn every stone
I feed and ponder in wonder and awe, I am a mother now
And that means a lot more than I thought I grasped, somehow
As you grow my little one, learn to walk, learn to run
Your mother will grow with you, teach and learn in return
