I'm interested in reading one or two books by Palahniuk, but I'm still confused about which book(s) should I buy. Is there any suggestion by some Palahniuk' reader? Thanks.
P.s.: since I have seen the movie, Fight Club is not on my wishlist, so i'd prefer to ear other suggestions. :)

Even though you have seen Fight Club, the book is still (as usual) a lot better. But like Ace I would recommend those two and 'Choke'.

Fight Club, in my opinion, is one of the very few books that do not follow that general rule.
The movie is so much better than the book.
The movie is one of my favorites ever - the book is so bad that if I read it first, I would not have bothered watching the movie at all.

I wouldn't buy anything until you've read a book for yourself to know whether or not you like Palahniuk. But then again, if you only read one or two of his books, you should be fine. After that, his style (pretty much the only thing going for him) gets old. ...At least it did for me.

I hate checking out books at the library...or borrowing. His style is good, but I don't think his books can get old because of it. Each one is different...they all have different personalities to them. Personally, I think Choke and Rant are his greatest works.
(wow, I actually used the word hate!)

The writing style doesn't worry me, i've read some French XX century writers (Nouveau Roman), James Joyce and others schizo-style-writers :D, I love odd stories, strange characters, amazing plots (even disgusting ones) - am I describing Fight Club? - so I think I'm ready! But thanks for the advice!
P.S.: I'm findind it hard to get Choke even in the major libraries nearby... well, probably portuguese don't read Palahniuk.

Really?
You didn't think how they met on the plane was a great improvement from the beach?

I agree. I love the movie, but after reading the book I decided to never read another by him. Haunted is the only one I've showed interest in since, but not enough to read it.

He has an exquisite talent for turning a phrase (all the great narration in the movie and much of the great dialogue come directly from the book) but he did a **** job of sewing it all together and making a story out of it.
I also hated the Tyler he depicted in the book, but the Tyler from the movie is a hero of mine.

I dunno...my parents think I'm OCD (I just think its a pet peeve, but then again it runs in the family) and I don't like the fact that books are messed up. Mostly, I just love owning the book...even if I don't enjoy it...and to tell you the truth, I don't really have any books that I couldn't find something to like about. I do like buying used books...(I put messages in the books...on seperate pieces of paper of course!). I DO check out books, but I just prefer buying them...people collect stamps...I collect books!
