Was god looking another way
That day you needed so much
That minute you decided that
this was not the time or place
for you to call and ask my
thoughts on if you should go
I should have known and
found you in time to take
upon myself what dispare
you couldn't bare alone
Where was I? being selfish not
paying attention to one who
needed my shoulder one who
honored me with friendship
This was not the way I
would have chosen for you
But you didn't seek my judgement
nor my hope nor the promise I
saw in you
my heart is shattered
I will ache forever when I
remember all the times
we laughted and the pain
you must have felt and
chose not to share
I know this isn't very good but it is heartfelt and I guess I wanted someone to know. Thank you all for letting me.

I happen to think it's both heartfelt AND very good.... especially this part.... where my heart broke right along with yours....
But you didn't seek my judgement
nor my hope nor the promise I
saw in you
my heart is shattered
I will ache forever
Thanks for sharing this, Granny5. I'm sure there are many here who can identify with these feelings.

I will second Cdnreader! What makes a poem (for me) is not the prettiness or decorousness or cleverness of the words, but the depth of feeling, the sincerity or the spontaneity of it.
I would like to think that whatever the nature of his despair, Mike at some point had felt your love for him.

Thank you both. I hope he did know how much I cared for him and how much I would have done to help him. He was my friend and co-worker. He decided last night that he was too tired, at 26, to bare anymore or to share his pain. It will take forever for my heart to heal. I hope he's safe now.

I'm sorry mom, I'm sorry you're so sad. I'm sorry things happened that way.
It was a lovely poem.

Can one person console
another for the loss of a third?
You who are her daughter
and who love her as you love
life itself - she who not only
gave you life
but gave you the idea
of how to live it,
nobly, that is, with more love
for others than for yourself.
She who is twice the love
she might be because of you.
Love one another
like two mirrors
that reflect the light
back and forth between them
as it grows brighter and
ever more bright.

How sweet and how beautiful. Thank you, Prince.

ever more bright
how wonderful and how true!

Granny, I am touched by your tenderness in the writing of this wonderful memory of yours. If a person writes something like that for me someday, I would consider it an honor that I touched another's life long enough to leave such a mark... Your love shines in each line...
