Is it just me or do a lot of people come on here with very specific questions about a book with nothing else to say other than "answer this". its kind of annoying and obvious that the person probably hasnt read the book themselves. i wanted to respond to one and say this but thought it more approptiate to state it here. anyways, to all of you doing this i recommend you pick up the book and actually try reading it and understanding it for yourself, you might get something out of it, minimally the answers to your homework, who knows? anyways just giving my thoughts on this.

It's a topic brought up here time and time again :D It's the nature of the beast. Many people assume for some reason we're all just sitting here *dying* to answer homework questions, write essays, book reports, dissertations, term papers, research papers, etc. etc. It can be a little annoying when the person shows an attitude of entitlement to get help here or they are rude if they don't get an immediate answer, or say, they post their question a dozen times in different forums.

There are many reasons as to why people might ask for help and some of them are legit and not as annoying, say for instance there is a large percentage of people here who do not use English as their first language, so, ask for interpretation of something from someone who understands the language better.

There is also the fact that a lot of newbies don't seem to understand the concept of a discussion forum (http://www.albion.com/netiquette/), they only ask for help, they don't come back and say thanks if they do get help and or they don't contribute any further be it a simple thanks or a continuation of discussing the topic they asked about in the first place.

If people are polite with their question and proffer their own ideas first to get a discussion going, then I usually don't mind helping someone, if I'm in the right mood :p and if I have the time, which isn't often. But there are some here who seem to have unending amounts of patience and are very kind and often take the time to assist and we're very happy they're part of LitNet :)

I really do try my best to fully undertand what I'm reading, but if I don't get something in a book, I usually go to Sparknotes first. I did ask a question here once, though. Last month. *blush* I did "proffer my own ideas", however.

But I know what you're talking about. These people are usually just one-two post members, though. People who don't like reading and just want an answer. Pretty annoying.

I like you.

I'm more annoyed with the homework assignments themselves rather than the people that don't want to do them...

Sometimes if you are conversant with the query then you can answer it.Sometimes the doubtful ones are indolent or afraid to read the book.

Well, I found this site looking to confirm what I thought the meaning of the short story "The Open Window" was. I read some comments and got my answer. Just trying to be an involved parent of a kid that sometimes struggles with a piece he is reading. Having said that, now that I have found this site, I plan to use it. Not just for homework issues but for myself.

Mom, I hope you understand that we don't mind helping people with their homework. I found this site looking for help with my own homework. ;) It's just a lot of people want us to write papers for them.
